Re: Analysis Swap: Hayakan

She's wearing western clothes - a white t-shirt and light blue cargo shorts. She's wearing sandals. She has identical pairs of bronze bracelets and anklets, with iridescent yellow beads attached. These bracelets are common as a way of showing membership in a religious group; hers specifically indica...

Re: Analysis Swap: Kateba

My interpretation is that sai might be a copula? Then the use to mean "yes" is something like "it is." If that's right, that might imply some other meanings if we're dealing with SOV--teba potentially something like "to call," xeda "to see." Deixa seems to be...

Analysis Swap: Hayakan

Hayakan is spoken in the Kingdom of Hayaka, a fictional country in our world – so you’d expect them to be familiar with modern technology, etc. The speaker you all will be meeting is from Saltam, the legislative capital and largest city by far, a huge conurbation with a tropical monsoon climate. You...

Re: The Great Exposition of Ruykkarraber

This looks quite interesting; I always have a soft spot for languages with /p/ as a gap (as opposed to /g/ or other common stops.) What's the deal with these nominalized verbs? --------- On the Mark Rosenfelder stuff, I'm always appreciative of his work. Verdurian may be a Euroclone, but it's a self...

Re: A Sketch of a New Language

This is really cool looking, and I definitely appreciate a more morphosyntactically-oriented approach to making a language -- lots of conlangers, myself included, often get wrapped up in angsting over minor phonological details.

How do the numeral classifier suffixes work?

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

More of a random idea: morphophonology, but whatever. This is something I've been working on for my latest sketch. Inventory is pretty simple: /p t ts tɬ k q/<p t ts tl k q> /s ɬ h/<s hl h> /m n/<m n> /l ɹ w/<l r w> /i ḭ e ḛ a a̰ o o̰ u ṵ/ Phonotactics are in the most general terms C(V)V(V)(ɹ), but ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I'm working on a diachronic conlang with a noun morphology based on this sketch , and am struggling with an issue. The ancestor language, Deligic, marks the singulative form with - g , even when doing so creates fairly intense consonant clusters. This isn't an issue as Deligic allows these. However,...
