Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

But I don't really know... I've read a bit on bilingualism - enough to know that it's an extremely complicated thing - but not enough to feel qualified to give solid answers here. In any case, I'm not sure if this qualifies as a "quick question"; for a full answer, you might need to read a book or ...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I'm not sure this is the right place to ask, but I'm avoiding the site I usually ask these sorts of random questions because of reasons. I have a character who speaks Greek and English natively. I'm wondering if there are any ways Greek would influence his English, like unusual word order or somethi...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

I have nearly 370 lexicon entries complete. I have about 60 entries to complete in this batch. I'm supposed to picking up my place, but I'm lazy today (actually, this week so far).

Re: Ŋyjichɯn

I had a bunch of words derived from sentences that I've been putting off fixing. I finally did it. morasjifiryras , flood, from mo-ŋa-ras jio firyr-as rise-3.SBJ-rise water fast-ADV (adverbs take part of the last syllable of the verb they're describing.) siisiinyrichoma , to brush hair or fur, from ...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

[xD] On the one hand, the small feminist part of me thinks that's horrible. On the other hand, the rest of me thinks that's really really great. Finally came up with 'yes' and 'no' for Nyjichun (mit and so, respectively). Finished the write up for the Type II pronouns (demonstrative, indefinite, and...

She, actually. Can't I just continue to copy and paste and ask stupid questions when X-SAMPA comes up? [:)]

/F/ is X-SAMPA for /ɱ/, which is a phoneme in your language. This is uncommon, especially so since you don't have /m/.
Ahhhh... I should learn X-SAMPA I suppose.

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Working on cleaning up the lexicon, mostly the etymology column. There were way too many entries that were just the English gloss, which makes it tricky when I'm trying to find the referenced word. Aside from a handful of words that I need to basically rebuild, I'll have almost 300 words done (and a...

Random Nyjichun word of the day: zoylko; after, next, later, behind, back of, butt, rear end, result. I may split off most of those and just have it be 'result'.

Latest completely filled lexicon entry for Nyjichun: sayβkonzata, 9. Literally 'five and four'. Only used idiomatically. Pronounced sayrkonzata. The normal form of nine is 'wyβ'.

Re: How to make a website for my conlang?

I use tiddlywiki . It's all one file (aside from pictures). You can put on a portable drive and take it with you to edit anywhere. By default it can't be edited online (although that can be changed, I believe) which keeps other people from messing with it. Unfortunately Firefox changed some things s...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

My Inyauk webpage is up for the world to see . There's still some info I need to fill in places but I'd say it's 90% complete. Found a typo for you. http://ossicone.zxq.net/inyauk/people.html 'The Inyauk were also by first conpeople.' Should be 'my first'? Wrote a dialogue to translate to illustrat...

Derived from 'jio' water. ratryyko - hairy, furry, fuzzy. From 'ryko' hair, fur. tya - rock, stone, pebble zywizato...

Re: Ŋyjichɯn

Oh, so this is the /F/ language! ??? I have no idea what this means. That is one tiny set of consonantal phonemes. Really? It seems about the same as Spanish and Japanese. I like the vowel inventory, though it has a slightly confusing romanisation. Why are <i y> sort of swapped? I would also kind o...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

Figured out a bunch of stuff, like deriving words. Picked out almost a hundred words to completely fill out the lexicon for, which means I get to make paucals and plurals, which I haven't done in quite a while. There's a lot of noun incorporating and I wanted shorter forms for that. Sometimes it's u...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

What SCA? In Mark Rosenfelder's SCA2 you can make the rule apply to the last syllable by saying it applies word finally (a/b/EN_V#), resp. apply to all but the last by disallowing it word finally (a/b/EN_V/EN_V#). That's the one. I probably could've figured it out eventually, but I'm not always ver...
