Re: What did you accomplish today?
Well, well, well. Today I completed the compilation of the CBB Multilingual Life-form Picture Dictionary in both the English and Kankonian editions -- index, credits, and all! I also converted both English and Kankonian into PDF files. Where can these PDF files be put up and hosted on the Net? At t...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
I just love Classical Laakitlantu too much, I can't stand to ruin it! But for naturalism, I need to do sound changes... Maybe ignore the sound changes, or declare that its one of those languages that undergo mindbogglingly little (near zero) change. I don't think normal teenagers have mental breakd...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
I'd hesitate to call this an "accomplishment", but according to my user profile, I apparently created this account and joined the CBB at 5:09pm (UTC−04:00) on July 12th, 2013 - exactly 10 years ago. [:D] Also, it looks like this is my 10000th post. so thats an accomplishment which marks a...

Re: Altlang Ideas Discussion
Salmoneus, If, at the outset of this discussion, you had simply said using -i turns a noun into a slur , I would have been startled, surprised, and shocked. yes...on par with when you mentioned that the Roman Republic/Empire had trading communities/colonies in Vietnam... ...but I would have believed...

Re: Altlang Ideas Discussion
Arabic is not the language of Afghanistan; nor are we speaking Arabic. The suffix found in Arabic is not relevant here. I was under the impression that, if it is used by speakers of more than a particular language, then it is relevant -- I don't know about you, but I wager I don't speak the languag...

I was taught that -i is a reliable way of making a population from a group or state*. Ie, people from Pakistan are Pakistanis. You don't say "My neighbor is a Pakistan" you say "My neighbor is a Pakistani"...though you could say "My neighbor is an Afghan" or "My n...

I've no knowledge birds of paradise in Rome; you clearly know more than me. So far as I know there's no reason to think Romans reached new guinea; few people did, and bird of paradise feathers were very expensive even in east asia, let alone in rome. I had never heard of this either. Maybe Keenir r...

Yes; but the more direct the contact, the moe likely it is for sizeable amount of currency to end up somewhere - I'm not aware, for instance, of Roman currency being found in eastern Siberia, though the same via-china route would be possible. Possible, yes...but did Eastern Siberians want Chinese g...

Re: Altlang Ideas Discussion
Much more plausible would be Roman settlement of, say, the Cape Verde islands. [people underestimate how far the Romans travelled, incidentally. There was a long-term Roman settlement in Vietnam, for instance!] Romans in Western China is less plausible to me; I'm not sure how they'd have gotten the...

Re: How do I create multiple declension paradigms?
Im checking out the Index Diachronica for ideas on that front. I do need to figure out how to like, come up with some on my own tho that are realistic. One thing I worry is that my conditional sound changes dont make any sense. They need only make sense/sound right, to you. Always remember that, no...

Re: Twin Aster (Man in Space’s conworld megathread)
The immediate question is, is a crossing of the mountains northerly a reasonable operation, or would it be more likely to go all the way to the lower elevation section near the west coast and then hug the north coast once they reached it? Split the difference, maybe? Part of the migratory group wan...

EDIT: we very much would like to learn more about your conlang and conculture. And its not unheard-of for people to write from the perspective of someone in that conculture...but at the same time, and i'm not sure i'm phrasing this well, but its also reassuring to see/know that that writer is aware ...

Are they vowel sounds? Do they denote questions? If they're unique, and if you tell us that they are unique, please tell us how they are unique. These only exist in Qarshkī and most of them were consonants O-kay.....which consonants that you say only exist in Qarski? I don’t know much about linguis...

I am here to teach people about my language and culture. Please do. Have you heard of the words “AL OUS AL ULOOZ” ? No, I haven't heard of those words in that romanization, though they sound slightly familiar. BTW, you do know this isn't a chat forum, right? Please explain what the words (expressio...

It's a roleplay, let them have their fun. Or don't, I don't care. No. There is no role playing. We're all fine whether there is or not; a country carved out of the state of Virginia (USA) is not at all an outlandish setting, compared with some locales that have been spoken of on these conlang forum...

Re: Qarshkī Language/Каршкий/قارشكئ
So this was copied straight from here (or a similar site that also used the exact same table), which, to be honest, leaves me a little less excited about the conlang. On the one hand, an entire section of text from the Wiki is just Persian, while this suggests that it's wholly Urdu (assuming the tw...

Re: Qarshkī Language/Каршкий/قارشكئ
I am slightly disappointed to find, however, that the section meant to be written in Qarshki appears to be written entirely in Persian Well, initially, we read this: Qarshkī borrows many loan-words from Arabic, Urdu, Persian , Kurdish, Turkish, French, Latin, and English. Qarsherskiy is usually wri...
