Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

Yes, /g/ and no /k/ is odd, and a matter I've discussed in other threads. I wonder if maybe adding another voiced consonant further back would make this situation weirder, or reinforce it as an odd quirk that may have had a more logical source?

Re: Conlanger stereotype poll

About how old were you when you realized you were Lithuanian? How did your parents take it when you told them? LOL I was informed at some point, likely relevant to a school project or some family tree nonsense or something, by my parents. Can't say I recall precisely, but I imagine they took it well.

Re: Random phonology/phonemic inventory thread

No labials: /n ŋ/ /t k/ /s/ /l/ No velars #2: /m n/ /p t/ /s/ /l/ Hmmmm. I really like these two. However, I'd be soooo tempted to throw in a random /g/ to the second as some kind of relic leftover of the vanquished velar nasal... or something. Or, for the other one, I feel strongly compelled to to...

[...] Finally! A gay, bearded, Lithuanian language inventor! Except that you're a righty... Well, it would certainly appear that a most interesting conversation was spawned by my rather innocuous and late-to-the-party response! Can't say I'd've expected that, but glad that it could add something us...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Thanks all for the food for thought with regard to /g/ lacking /k/ inventories! Mongolian does have an interesting sound distribution and it is intriguing that /k/ only appears there in loanwords it would seem. So, it sounds to me like a language can do it, but it would be odd and quite uncommon and...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

I don't know how "quick" either of these questions are, but: 1) Is there any naturalistic way that a language could have a very simple and pretty symmetric inventory with unvoiced stops... and then have /g/ with no /k/? It seems super odd to me, but I'm not sure just how odd it might be. 2...

Maybe a middle ground of comeculpas? It distances itself from the goat sucker (which I like), and also makes it a bit less sing-songy.

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

pluralizing an emotion seems a bit odd to me, even if it's meant to signify multiple people as the object. i'm not a native speaker, but Im saying this from a metalinguistic viewpoint, not a Spanish speakers' viewpoint ... I cant really offer a better word but comevergüenzas just doesnt feel right ...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this, but I struck upon an idea for a mythical beast that feeds on people's shame, and for whatever reason, wanted to coin a name for it in Spanish (maybe due to the strong undercurrent of shame present in Roman Catholicism... a religion prominent in Span...

[...] All that shows not only skill but artistry! Well thank you much for that! It also makes me happy that I managed to do this in MSPaint with tenacity and a base font to start from. Yes, the goal for my scripts is typically realism, so I'm glad that I seemingly achieved that. As an aside, two of...

@37: That does look like Hebrew to me! One of the letters looked just like the letter mem. Yes it does! In fact, looking at them side-by-side, the only major difference is to what part of the vertical stroke the top curve attaches. I have to admit that the starting place was certainly not Hebrew as...

Tćiskrak aćritokira. [<3] You tend to be a fan of my romanizations and such... anything in particular that stands out to you? I like the aesthetic of that script. I like it well enough, and am glad others do as well. It kinda has a bit of a Hebrew vibe, but the language itself has a bit of a slavic...

Re: What did you accomplish today?

After a horrifically long drought, I'm back to casually making scripts and designing the rudiments of a lang. I think I've finally grown content in just designing scripts and making JUUUST enough of a language so that I can start to use them and move on. I've learned that it is okay to only do what ...

No problem, my dude, I'm in no particular rush or anything.

Good news is, that since posting here I've gotten a bit more inspired to do a bit more con-scripting and such, so there's that. :)

Looks like this thread hasn't been toooo active, but I'll ask anyway. I've recently been a bit obsessed with the song End of Heartbreak by Killswitch Engage. However, after listening to the whole album its on I've come to find out that it isn't really representative of their overall style and "...

Oh, that is so cool ! Do any real scripts work like this, or is this for once something that's beyond ANADEW? Good question. I know that I don't know any that work quite like this... but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I do think that the idea of having something like 13 different glyphs for 3 ...
