Re: Muddling through another Conlang
Vosel is right that there's no single correct way to pronounce a phon eme . Note, though, that in the part of my post Vosel quoted, I was talking about pure phones , not phonemes. There is a "correct" way of sounding each cardinal vowel phone ( not phon eme ) on the IPA vowel-chart. No, y...

Re: Muddling through another Conlang
And are my vowels jacked up because I'm an Ohioian [?3.haI:.jI:\n]? No, but it's easier to hear the difference between sounds that are phonemic in your language/accent than between those that aren't. There isn't any "correct" pronunciation, all regional accents are equally correct. I thou...

Re: Having a problem with case endings...
i was going to have an german-like vowel system, but i decided too many of the vowels sounded the same, What do you mean? Words are all required to begin in a consonant, and end in a vowel. This is bc if a word ends in the same phoneme (or something similar) as the next word begins with, that would...

+--------+------------------------------+ | Front Near-front Central Back| | Close i u | |Close-mid e o | | Open-mid E 3 | |Near-open { | | Open a | +---------------------------------------+ As others said, this is unrealistic, vowels must be equally spaced. You should try something like +--------+...

Re: Language revival
What if all Indo-European languages were to die out someday, and English were the only one left? If English died off, it would take with it all the songs, stories and history of Western civilization. That means Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, the Bible, the Greek myths ... all of it gone. huh? Are yo...

Re: The worst sounding natlang ever
WinXP offer a vietnamese keyboard layout and it does not seem to be too difficult to use. I tried it and it took me less than a minute to figure out how to type "người Việt". With some training it should be no problem at all. Try it. Well, yes, I was pretty sure Vietnamese keyboards exist...

Re: The Truly Alien
Brains are computational systems. Neural networks are predisposed toward certain types of algorithms, but do you have even the slightest shred of evidence (other than "Humans don't do it so it must be impossible") for believing neural networks implement trees more efficiently than stacks?...

Re: The Truly Alien
If our evolutionary process failed in coming up with species using stack-oriented languages like Fith, then, something is wrong with the concept of that language. It is unlikely to occure or it brings major drawbacks. Indeed. Adverbs, dependent clauses, instrumental, questions etc. would be very pr...

Re: Question about Features of phonemes
In any given language, one phoneme is different from another if, and only if, there is a "minimal pair" of words that differ in meaning, but differ minimally in pronunciation, in that one of the words has one of the phonemes exactly where the other word has the other phoneme. basically ri...

Re: The Truly Alien
It's a very human-centric way of thinking. If they are alien, chances are they are... alien. It's not human-centric. And as I said, it's not too difficult. It's basicaly a SOV language, it looks incomprehensible just because the grammar is described in non-linguistic terms. Check turkish for exampl...

Re: The Truly Alien
How is it not a language? As far as I'm concerned, language is a method of communication. If a certain string of words gives information, and effectively communicates it (as this stack example does), why does it not count as a language? Becaus, at least as it was used by Micamo it relies on the eng...

No it doesn't. The result is an english sentence. Do it's an encryption system, not grammar?Crumbs wrote:See my post vosel. It makes sense. The only reason it doesn't make sense immediately is because it is alien.

And if that still doesn't make sense to you, here's what the stack would look like with each successive word I . . . I cannot understand why you want to have sex with a llama I don't get it. I thought it's supposed to be a language and the result should be a meaningful piece of information, not a s...
