Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

You're right. Ugh, I need to come up with something new again  [:D] I also noticed just now that the language doesn't have /e/, gdi cə acá a cə kur a ki POSS hand GEN POSS animal GEN 1PS "a cə" fuses to "ac" and the first "cə" is dropped. So in the end it's just an infixed "-c-" for possessed ...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Why would that be an adjectivizer, if you don't mind asking? [O.O] Well, OK, this comment was more provocative than it was useful. I think that if you have two GENs, one would likely function as an adjectivizer of some sort. So in fact, I think "tree ADJZ fig" and "tree ADJZ fig GEN 1s" would be mo...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

A common strategy without have is to use the Dative or a Locative construction, like in Russian. But I don't see why your way shouldn't work, too. It's pretty cool, actually. The dative or locative case is another option, that's true. I really like the idea as well, because it's a bit different fro...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

In a language that does not have a word for "to have", is the following structure able/likely to turn into the general way to express "to have"? (example language is also zero copula btw) táħuc táħuc a ke house house GEN 1PS "The house is my house" > "I have a house" And more difficult things shorte...

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

Yeah, there are a lot of different explanations on the internet regarding this euphemism. Another one I found was that it comes from English "six" meaning "back". To quote Wiktionary "(military slang, by ellipsis of six o'clock) Rear, behind (rear side of something)". It'd be really interesting to k...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

But on the other hand in English for example people wouldn't casually refer to a river with a long name such as Mississippi as "missiver " and expect to be understood. On the other hand I could see it shorten to just Missippi or 'Sippi, but then we would have to know if words with a similar structu...

Mais les films peuvent aussi être amusants. Lesquels avez-vous regardés ? But watching movies can be fun, too. Which ones did you watch? Biliyorum! Ama aile filmleriyle ailemin filmini kastettim. Bu çok enteresan! Ailemin yeni şey için açık olmaduğudan dolayı bunu asla yapamarız. [:S] Aile filmlerini sadece baktık. That's very interesting! We could never do that because my family doesn't have an open mind for new things. We only watched family movies. Didn't know how to say "to have an open...

Re: The Quintessential 5th Conversation Thread

My family and I were really lucky this year it seems. The day after we flew to Spain, a lot of German flights were cancelled. One day later and we wouldn't have been able to be on vacation this year. I just hope we're able to fly back home in a week [:S]
