Re: Yay or Nay?
Recently I've been thinking about a concept for a next conlang. 1) Phonology The phonology is mostly based on English, Swedish and the major Chinese languages. The main emphasis, phonology-wise, is to make a beautiful language that's relatively easy to pronounce and "glides along the tongue&quo...

Because I didn't remember to post here earlier, I'm going to post for today and the last two days now. 1st Sumu word: päivu : sun, day This word essentially comes from the Finnish word päivä , day. However, it originally comes from the Sami word beaivi/beaivvos , sun. Originally the word in Sumu was...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
For the last week I've been developing a conscript for my language. As it turns out, because the language is phonologically very similar to Finnish, it can be, with a few alterations, be used to write Finnish. Problems only rise with loanwords that contain consonant clusters. Here's the first passag...

Re: What kind of writing system would work best?
I would suggest abugida-logographic system. An alphabet could work too, but it would be somewhat bland. An abugida probably wouldn't work too well as the language can have two vocals in a syllable. By extent, an abugida would also have to have a placeholder consonant or separate vocals (which would...

Re: Grammatical Gender
I'm honestly surprised no one's mentioned Swedish, Norwegian and Danish yet. All of these have two genders: "en" and "et(t)". Basically, en is human and et is not human. However, the vast majority of the time this doesn't apply. It's more like most words that mean humans are en w...

1) The mix of logographs and alphabets The writing system will work exactly as mentioned before. The difference is that roots (that are not the last root) in WCWs are marked with a small circle in the upper-right corner to signify that they "soften". Bag the small circle. As clawgrip poin...
