Tiggurat: Tongue of the Ullammani River Basin
Sup, nerds. It's been a long time since I was active on here. As we all know, quarantine happened, and I've been making conlangs again — you know the drill. Hope everyone has been healthy and sane in these crazy times. Background: Classical Tiggurat is a synthetic language, brushing along the border...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Hey, guys, I have a query that's been bugging me for a really long time. I've been trying to figure out how to go about forming pronouns, demonstratives, and determiners from a specific source or set of words, and I've been doing a lot of digging online for months with little to no results. Like, ho...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
Actually yesterday and Sunday, but I wasn't on much on either day. Had my 30th birthday and got moved into a new apartment. Hubby and I should be here while we work on getting a house in the coming year or two. Happy 30th! My mom is turning 40 in a few days and she's anxious and excited all at once...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
Does it make sense for a language to have a three-way contrast between plain, palatilised, and pharyngealised consonants? And would a pharyngeal plosive/fricative have more chances of becoming voiced, compared to a plain plosive/fricative? 1. Yes 2. No, IINM. I can't think of a good reason for that...

Y'know, it's pretty crazy how, despite the hectic lifestyles and long stretches of inactivity, users still keep returning to this thread, putting in their reconstructions through good and bad weather. In fact, I find it so admirable, I would like to set a day sometime in the summer where as many use...

Re: Thandazhi (1st Triconsonantal Conlang)
In Thandazhi, is there a consistent way that words with related meanings are derived from the roots, or are you going on an etymological route, where as long as the root is retained in some form anything goes? It's a bit of both, I'm using some onomatopoeia for the consonant roots themselves and sh...

Thandazhi (1st Triconsonantal Conlang)
A new baby conlang I birthed out. It's pretty rough right now, I've never worked with triconsonantal conlangs before, and I'm already neck-deep in trying to make sense of all the mountains of new info. Akkadian, Arabic, and Hebrew are languages I've wanted to play with because of their unique morpho...

I think I want to disallow /ɲi/ in one of my 'langs. What do you suppose is a better synchronic change to make the invalid syllable allowable: /ɲi/ > [ni] /ɲi/ > [ɲə] Some other thing... The other thing is that I have other sounds that I refer to as "palatal" like /ʃ/, its voiced counterp...

I'll be posting my guess soon, most likely tomorrow, as I'll be in for a very slow day at work.
I've gotta say: Bravo, good chap. This is one hell of a maze to sort through.

Re: What did you accomplish today?
I've been working with agglutionation lately, and I've learned that it's super easy to have phonemes fuse together, which is pretty handy for evolving more conlangs, but also a bit of a pain when I want the agglutination to be consistent and keep the phonemes from bleeding into each other too much. ...

Re: Question about languages in an 'unstable' conworld
Could it be that the Onlookers don't quite know how to fully stop humans from rebuilding civilization, which is why humanity sticks around long enough to do it all over again? Maybe some humans could capture an Onlooker, or figure out how to get all blurry like they do, possibly allowing them access...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
I am officially on Winter Break! To commemorate the yuletide recess, I've been working on a conlang that gives me somewhat strange results based on the sound changes I have in place. For making it easier to show the differences in how related langs handle the changes shown, I will put them in bold a...

Ok! Here I can finally post why I've necro'd this page! I played with these earlier in the week, and to compare and contrast the results, here's the original image Taurenzine posted for his/her ancient alphabet earlier in the thread and my result below: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CwHLVttWgAAX_Sy.jp...

Adding on to Ehesh's question, would it be possible for noun class systems getting messy with "catch-all" or "generic" classes like that to result in languages with grammatical gender, such as those with masculine-feminine or animate-inanimate contrasts? An example to illustrate ...

Re: Welcome to my conlang
People here seem to generally dislike "necro-ing" on long-abandoned threads, but I found this topic yesterday, and I really liked the direction it was going in. I did, however, add my own embellishments to both, as I will show down below. I don't know how acceptable this kind of thing is, ...
