Re: English Orthography Reform

I don't know if I'd say "abitrary", but I do find your vowels systematically counterintuitive. And given that you go to so much effort, I'm not sure why you retain ambiguities like your "y" standing for either /i:j/ or /jU:/, two totally different sounds. It probably goes withou...

Re: New Weekly Indo European Collablang

Isn't the orthography purely to make it easier for us to read? It's realistically not at the stage where it would be written down, let alone in the Latin alphabet.

Re: Last word you learned in a foreign language

The last word I've learned in a foreign language is ano , which evidently means "yes" in Slovak. (although upon further [careful] googling, it appears it should actually be áno ) I assure you it does not mean "no" in Spanish, however... Context? Why would anyone think it means n...

Re: New Weekly Indo European Collablang

Is this going to be a language isolate that exists in roughly our timeline's version of the Caucasus, or are we constructing a completely unrecognizable alternate history? I assume we'll be voting on this at some point. It won't be an isolate, though, since it'll be descended from PIE, unless there...

Does anyone else think we might eventually see voicing of voiceless fricatives (aside from /h/) at the beginnings of words?

Ajd ræðë rid sämpþíŋ lajk ðís Certainly "interesting"; not sure I'd characterize it as "easier to spell or pronounce", though. The point is that it would be easier to learn, for non-native speakers. These spelling reforms that only get rid of some obvious problems while keeping ...

Re: English Orthography Reform

I don't really like these moderate hero spelling reforms that take away the interesting parts of English without actually making it easier to spell or pronounce.

Re: A North Eurasiatic A priori Collablang

Tillamook is missing all labials (as is a sprachbund trait of pnw). There aren't even rounded vowels in Tillamook Then how are there both in its name? There's a /ʃ/ in <spanish>, but no /ʃ/ in Spanish. There's a Cz in Czech, but no cz in the Czech language. Orthography ≠ Pronunciation. (Also, Tilla...
