Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

In the frase ''hermoso día'', is ''día'' a indirect o direct object? How it is when there are no verbs in a sentence? ''Beautiful day''.

Re: (L&N) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

...perhaps, if that's serious and not trolling, you could be more specific!? Look, you see those letters, right? They form a line . I mean, no, not literally a single line, but the symbols, the letters, are arranged in a row, aren't they? There are two ends of that row, yes? Left, and right. Now im...

Writing systems

Which writing system is usually the most complicated, uncommon, the hardest to learn? Which one is the best when you want to write more by writing fewer characters?

Re: Serious question about writing systems

Great question! I was thinking about it, but I hadn't thought to combine words like that yet. I think I would say ka + ti. Do logograms have a single symbol for every existing thing?

Serious question about writing systems

If I make a language that has small units of meaning of one syllabe (for example, let's think that /ka/ means ''women''), and I create a syllabary type of writing system for it, supposing that the symbol ''O'' stands for /ka/, is it a syllabary or a logogram?

Re: Indecipherable languages

Another thought: perhaps it is indeciperable because the spoken conlanguage only exists on some old VHS tapes or weathered SONY audio cassettes that aren't as crisp as they used to be, so even assigning IPA values is trickier than anyone would like...from there, it may be be hard to distinguish som...

Re: Indecipherable languages

You can't decipher languages. All languages are impossible to decipher unless you know what they say (or can guess). Linguists decipher languages ideally by having a bilingual transcription that tells them exactly what the unknown language text says, and finding patterns in how the unknown language...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here

How to make a language/code indecipherable or very hard to decipher/learn? What are the key points? Well, based on past stumbling blocks, there are a number of options; 1. Only present enough of the language/script to put on name tags, funerary monuments, or "good luck" objects. 2. No tri...

Curious but serious pronounciation problem

Hello everyone. What happens to me is that after learning German and masterizing /ʀ/ trill, now that I learn French I can't pronounce /ʁ/ because /ʀ/ comes from my throat. Any help?

Re: Softness and poeticity

Thank you very much to all! I want to consider everything that has been said, but I have the problem that I'm not linguistic and I haven't done a conlang before. How did you start making languages? Should I go for all the elaboration I could or should I avoid saturation or burnout?

Softness and poeticity

What are the things I should know if I want to create a conlang that sounds poetic, beautiful or romantic, maybe like Farsi or French? (I know this is subjective, but what the majority of people thinks. I know that most people find French or Farsi beautiful languages).
