Re: Is English a logographic writing system?
Obviously the reform would be rolled out in stages over many years so that society can adapt to it. You don't need to republish all books ever written because that's obviously stupid and we don't do that anyway. Only because all the books didn't survive history. Nobody cares to read out of print bo...

Given that it was probably a regional idiom, I don't see the downside to asking here, where pragmatics and expressions are part of what are dealt with, as parts of languages.

My bad - I thought you said the Caber logograms are a year and a half old; I was about to congratulate them and you on the birthday.
As to the new ones - they're quite nice.

I like how you casually just continued a thread from 2015. If I can find an old thread of mine and use it, I usually prefer to do that. it both shows me if and how I've changed over time (not the same as progressing, i well know) and makes organizing them easier when i get my webpage up and running...

Keenir's Script Scratchpad
* Abjads: --------"cows eat grass" At the library, I was looking through Comrie's Atlas and Dalby's Dictionary of Languages ...and I thought to try my hand at one of those one-page entries. Partway through, I got distracted by the list of word orders, and how each group would arrange the ...

How much dialectial variation is to be expected over a certain area, especially with vowels? He was talking more about the range of dialects across social strata and geographic distance (sometimes one held most of the change, other times the other did)...but https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/bastard...

Re: (Conlangs) Q&A Thread - Quick questions go here
If your father landed on an island 50 years ago, but you and your brother now live on opposite sides of the island, how much do you think your dialect will differ from that of your brother? If I remember what I've read of Bickerson, the answer to this, depends on who my brother and I were raised am...

Re: Conworlders' religious influences on conworlds
So, being very biased, I've noticed that human societies have come up with it as a belief (through philosophical inquiry or evolving beliefs) a surprising amount of times completely independently. Oludumare, Brahman, the Korowai "One God," the Greek conceptions of the Monad, the Mixe yë’ ...

Well, well, well. Today I completed the compilation of the CBB Multilingual Life-form Picture Dictionary in both the English and Kankonian editions -- index, credits, and all! I also converted both English and Kankonian into PDF files. Where can these PDF files be put up and hosted on the Net? At t...

I just love Classical Laakitlantu too much, I can't stand to ruin it! But for naturalism, I need to do sound changes... Maybe ignore the sound changes, or declare that its one of those languages that undergo mindbogglingly little (near zero) change. I don't think normal teenagers have mental breakd...

I'd hesitate to call this an "accomplishment", but according to my user profile, I apparently created this account and joined the CBB at 5:09pm (UTC−04:00) on July 12th, 2013 - exactly 10 years ago. [:D] Also, it looks like this is my 10000th post. so thats an accomplishment which marks a...

Salmoneus, If, at the outset of this discussion, you had simply said using -i turns a noun into a slur , I would have been startled, surprised, and shocked. yes...on par with when you mentioned that the Roman Republic/Empire had trading communities/colonies in Vietnam... ...but I would have believed...

Arabic is not the language of Afghanistan; nor are we speaking Arabic. The suffix found in Arabic is not relevant here. I was under the impression that, if it is used by speakers of more than a particular language, then it is relevant -- I don't know about you, but I wager I don't speak the languag...
