Hmm...I prefer something where they'd be able to detect FTL, but only for relatively short distances. Like detecting a ship an hour away. That gives warning time, but still requires rapid preparation and setups.
I concur.

Alright, what about energy weapons? Are they a thing, and if so how common are they?

Yes, they'll be pretty common.

It would be better to base the detecting mechanism on the method of FTL/warp used.

If we are using space-warping(to shorten the distance used by manipulating the space) rather than the "true" FTL(travelling in normal space with a speed faster than light), the distortion of space might become detactable when approaching the distorted space?

I'll join!

And if opinions are still being taken on FTL, I'd put my vote for both slow-but-reliable (space-warping?) FTL with required infrastructure and near-zero chance of death/failure otherwise and also fast-but-risky (true?) FTL where there's a good chance you'll smash yourself yourself into a star if you haven't taken proper precautions. For true FTL, I'd think it'd have to be undetectable except perhaps by the trail it left behind (I have this vague idea of using gravitational "rams" to basically shove obstacles out of the way, if that makes sense?), and for space-warping:

What kinds of energy weapons? Lasers? Plasma beams? Antimatter weapons? Or all of the above? :3

Lasers are overused and I hate how they're depicted in sci-fi, so I'll go for plasma and antimatter weapons.

I'm voting for all of the above as well.

It'd be pretty cool if nukes, railguns and rockets were allowed.

World of the Sapients? Mundus Sapientium? or should we provide some names that could be explained as a word from a language of the aliens?

If spots are still open to join, then I would love to join as well!

Also a question, what are you thoughts on missiles, these can range from good ol' space nukes to things like star wars's proton missiles?
