Truly, {Venus} could and by rights should be Freyja or Friȝȝa. I þreƿ out ðe name 'Hell' for this, ƕich see: http://www.strangehorizons.com/2002/20020617/inferno.shtml I couldn't see ðy comment ðere, unless ðou ðyself art Peter Jekel, in ƕich case it's still not cƿite clear ðat's ƕat ðou'rt saying.

Selfishly, I þink noþing is ƿon ƿiþ {planetesimal}. If it is as big or bigger ðan ðe Moon, and folloƿs its oƿn ring-paþ ymb ðe Sun, to me, ðat is kiþ and kin to a 'Ƿorld'. After all, 'Tis bigger ðan ðee or me, innit?
Ƿell, ƕen astronomers agreed ƿiþ ðat, ðey got up to 45 {planets}.
Ðey ðen decided ðat ðere should be a difference betƿeen a {planet} and an {asteroid} or {planetesimal}, and redefined {planet} so ðat ðere ƿere nine {planets} and ðe oðers ƿere {asteroids} or {planetesimals}.
Miȝt I suggest "ƿorldlet" or "ƿorldling"?
And noƿ, ƿiþ ðe discovery of so many {Trans-Neptunian} objects, such as Sedna, ðey have once again decided ðat ðere should be a difference betƿeen a {planet} and a {dƿarf planet}, and have once more redefined {planet} so ðat noƿ ðere are eight {planets} and ðe oðers are now {dƿarf planets}. Ðat's ƕy I suggested "dƿarven ƿanderers".

{satellite}? Hmmm..... child-Ƿorld? Ƿorld-þrall? To me, a moon is a moon is a moon, and ever so shall be.
I also þouȝt of
þrall, but noƿ I prefer
þeȝn. A þrall is never free. A þeȝn, OTOH, ðouȝ in constant attendance, may be a great man if his master is great; for instance a king's þeȝns are cabinet ministers. I ƿould consider Ettin and ðe {Galilean satellites} (or most of ðem) "great þeȝns"; or, at least, any ƿorld-þeȝn as big as or bigger ðan Odin.
Ðe relation betƿeen a "ƿorldling" and a "ƿorld's þeȝn" is like ðat betƿeen a Serene Hiȝness and a Royal Hiȝness, I guess; ðe ƿorldling may not be bigger (in fact may be smaller) ðan ðe ƿorld-þeȝn, but ðe ƿorldling is independent (or raðer depends directly upon ðe Sun) and ðe ƿorld-þeȝn is dependent on a greater ƿorld.

{Charon}.... Meanest ðou "boatman of bard's tales"? Or merely "moon of {Pluto}".
Charon :: Pluto... I ƿould saȝ Niddhögg::Nastrond or somesuch. But ðis smacks too much of Norþmen's smorgasbord, no? Maȝhap ðe Hellmoon :: Hell. Knoƿ not I.
ƕat þinkest ðou?
I þouȝt if ðe dƿarf-ƿanderer {Pluto} ƿere named for ðe Anglo-Saxon near-ecƿivalent (if ðere is one) of {Pluto}, perhaps its þeȝn {Charon} could be named for ðe Anglo-Saxon near-ecƿivalent (if ðere is one) of {Charon}.
I also þouȝt of Niddhögg.
Edit: I just þouȝt of "Ratatosk:Loki", but I suspect ðat's not suitable.
Like ðee, I also ƿorried about being too Norse and not enouȝ Anglo-Saxon; ðouȝ as I ƿill soon show ðee.
I ƿould like names, too, for historical hypoþetical ƿanderers in ðe Sunnish Setup; in particular for {Vulcan} and {Counter-Earth}.
{Vulcan} ƿas þouȝt to be a ƿanderer closer in to ðe Sun than Odin. A too-Norse name for it ƿould be Logi (
not Loki); IMO a more suitably Anglo-Saxon name for it ƿould be Ƿeyland.
Ƿeyland's existence ƿas compatible ƿiþ ðe {Copernican Revolution}. Ðe {Counter-Earþ}, OTOH, ƿas a solution to keeping ðe Earþ habitable in a previous hypoþetical setup.
