You can tell the same lie a thousand times,
But it never gets any more true,
So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you.
Just one time.

So close your eyes once more and once more believe
That they all still believe in you.
Just one time.

So I have a mod question: will either of you be taking over the rewarding of ranks? Ossicone seems largely absent these days.
Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread
Now that is a good question. I'd assume we have the same responsibilities regarding the rewarding of ranks as the Elder Mods ( ), so I may have to have a quick chat with Aszev about the procedure on that oneDesEsseintes wrote:So I have a mod question: will either of you be taking over the rewarding of ranks? I do something like that, but mine seems to be a little more like [t͡ɕ]Frislander wrote:I syncopate it in all of those words, and furthermore before /ɹ/ my /t/ becomes /tʃ/: /ləˈbɒɹətʃɹi/OTʜᴇB wrote:It varies. I remove it in "secretary", "military", "factory" (I sometimes leave in vague hints of a schwa in factory) etc., but not in "dictionary"Khemehekis wrote:Like in "secretary"? I didn't know the British did that with other -ary and -ory words, though.Dormouse559 wrote:That's a typical British pronunciation of the word. What was up with that?
Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread
That discussion of words in -ary reminds me of the Transatlantic accent - championed by the likes of Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, FDR, George Plimpton, William F. Buckley, and Thurston Howell III (actor Jim Backus), and sort of mangled by HRM Leia Organa of Alderaan (actress Carrie Fisher).
Comic actor Moe Howard pokes some fun with the accent from time to time in 3 Chiflados shorts.
Ironically, he plays around with the 'correct' pronunciation of the selfsame word 'secretary' in the short You Natzy Spy, as the fictitious dictator Moe Hailstone.

Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread
Aszev and Co. - would it be difficult to add Tapatalk support to the forum? I think it's the only forum I frequent that currently doesn't support it, and it's so much more convenient to have everything in one place.

How would it affect the forum?

It would not. But it would make it possible to read the forum through a popular mobile app.opipik wrote:How would it affect the forum?

Interesting idea. There are times when I want to read CBB on a phone and it's a little difficult to navigate the webpage on a tiny screen.gestaltist wrote:It would not. But it would make it possible to read the forum through a popular mobile app.opipik wrote:How would it affect the forum?
What would the plan be vis-a-vis the ever present bane of online ads / monetization schemes / etc? (If any.)
Will those of us who use phones be able to easily access special characters / IPA and so forth? I'm assuming the application will display these sorts of things correctly!
Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread
Apart from possibly making an annoying popup appear every time one of us mobile browser users visits the site... A quick googling suggests there might be ways to disable that, though. Anyway, it's up to Aszev.gestaltist wrote:It would not.opipik wrote:How would it affect the forum?

Assuming Unicode, those sorts of things should Just Work(tm).elemtilas wrote:Will those of us who use phones be able to easily access special characters / IPA and so forth? I'm assuming the application will display these sorts of things correctly!
Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread
Tapatalk support was recently added for phpBB. In fact, just 50 days ago. It will probably get added when Aszev needs to update the forum software. When that will happen, I don't know.gestaltist wrote:Aszev and Co. - would it be difficult to add Tapatalk support to the forum? Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread
Wow, the current redesign of the CBB is very much screaming “21st-century minimalism”.
I like it (except that everything in the post editing screen is sort of mirrored).
Now it's perfect – please don't change the colour scheme anymore!

Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread
Looks pretty cool :D A number of forums I've posted on have updated recently and it's always for the better.
Re: Forum News discussion/feedback thread
To be honest, I utterly hate this forum design. Like, there is no way to articulate my issues with it. I think it has to do with the overuse of white, which is almost blinding and makes it incredibly difficult for me to read anything.
