The new eldin raigmore here on the new aveneca.com/cbb is the same as the old eldin raigmore there on the old conlanger.com/cbb. Yes, it's me.

But that would deprive eldin of his entrance.

Eldin seems to know more about linguistics than anyone else on the planet.

Tell us about it, Eldin. Are you going to share that part?

This guy's clearly a fraud, an imposter, I say! We will not accept you to be the real Eldin until you prove yourself.

But Eldin already did confirm that it was him: http://www.conlanger.com/cbb/viewtopic. ... 9225#59225

I only took half a semester of undergraduate linguistics in college -- I had to drop out because of the flu.

Most of what I know comes from participation in on-line conlanging groups.
I usually read what people recommend to me. Also, sometimes I look up a topic and then look up books and/or articles about it and read those. I guess I've been doing that since sometime between April 1st 2004 and February 6 2006.

The flu can be pretty bad sometimes.
And some places are rather harsh regarding sick leave or absences.
Two local colleges here are a good example; Cumbernauld barely cared so long as the work was done and passed on time. Stow would try to boot you from the course for more than 3 consecutive days of absence.

I had to drop the whole second half of the semester because I got the flu.
Not going to class for four weeks leaves you too far behind to catch up.
My linguistics professor and I got on fine, and I still correspond with her sporadically. Nobody made me drop; I just realized I had to.

Are things genuinely that easy where you live?

Not really. Perhaps it's a bit easier than in the United States. But you still have to be admitted to a course (I don't know how much competition there is to the linguistics courses in Sweden). You must also finance your living in some way; it may be difficult to study of you are also working.

I'm not sure what it's like in America, but getting into courses here isn't simply a case of "I think I'll go do that." On top of everything you've mentioned, one also has to fund the course. (Technically there's an agency that covers this, but they're... capricious.)
