Below are a list of wanted flag icons, the list is by no means exhaustive, so if you feel you want to make a flag not on the list, then by all means go ahead! Not that flags for conlangs that aren't well recognized will not be added. Also be aware that your submissions may be slightly edited, or in the worst case, not used at all.

That's a good idea, Quenya could be the same. Quessë should probably be the rune in such a case.

You can probably get away with editing in mspaint. I'm using paint.NET with its layers to add transparency and the white highlight in the top left, but it is by no means necessary. Also if you need the base image, just right click any flag smiley, choose copy image, and paste wherever you want.

Yeah it's a good suggestion. I've been thinking about runes or perhaps a raven. Maybe we could even have 2 rune icons, one with an A and one with a U or V/W, for East and West Old Norse respectively.

@Quenya: I think that either we use an icon with the Tolkien symbol for all of his languages, otherwise we should probably have different symbols to keep them distinct (in which case tengwar could be useful).

The volapük ones seem to be merely suggestions. I think that globe logo they have is the safest bet, though it's not very distinctive...

The old Byzantine flag could be good though!

That could work too. Another suggestion I had is Athena's owl, altho like the Roman wolf icon, it's kinda hard to distinguish at that size...


and @ na'vi discussion: it's not about if we take it seriously or if it's well made, it's pretty much a fame issue. Remember that we have an Esperanto icon. Also, for example, I personally would never ever use or identify with the "conlang" flag, but we use it here anyway.

That's a registered trademark of the Tolkien estate; we probably need permission to use it. Certainly we should check first.
BTW http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:JRRT_logo.svg is IMO a better URL for that.
