Just wondering, do any of you have favorite historical periods or regions? If so, why? Or do you have any historical periods or regions you really hate?

I generally don't have a favorite historical period or region, but I do really hate modern history, American history, 17th-18th century European history, and pre-modern Japanese history. I guess I vaguely enjoy ancient and medieval history. Lately, however, I'm getting really drawn to ancient Middle Eastern history, particularly that concerning around the Silk Road. I guess I'm also starting to warm up to Ancient Egypt again (which I loved as a kid).

The various pre-contact North American societies. Well, some of them anyway.

In no particular order;
  • Here and now;
  • The future elsewhere (like, another planet, or something);
  • George VI;
  • Natal during the Zulu period;
  • India in the 1960s;
  • Texas in the 1950s;
  • Canada pretty much any other time in the 20th century;
  • Turkey and Israel in the 1970s and 1980s

The Medieval period of pretty much anywhere, be it here in England, elsewhere in Europe, Japan, China, pre-Columbus Americas, etc...

Also the Tudor Period;

And the Victorian Era.

I think I just love dingy narrow awkward streets personally...

Even though it could be smelled that the two of them were eaten and butchered around as if the other ones had experience, I can obviously tell you two are eating peacefully without being disturbed.

I blame Sherlock Holmes for my recent Victorian inspirations.

the late Roman Republic from the end of the 3rd Punic War onward to Augustus. . I'm currently reading a series of historical novels about the period by Colleen McCullough, great stuff.

I like more 'primitive' societies; sort of slightly into the iron age and earlier in most cases.
This may be why I'm fascinated with several modern Indonesian and African tribes and am slightly disappointed when I see a member from an otherwise stone age people wearing a blue t-shirt...

I like pre-historic times and maybe early civilisations.

Things started to get boring in ancient Greece :-|

I like the 1964-1980 period in the Western and Latin American civilizations. Why did it ever have to come to an end?
