Thanks, guys. You're very encouraging. The combination of trigger and aspect is very exciting to me. The Semitic concept of gender will give way to animacy, and then person, as inflected on the verb and in the pronouns, will become deixis instead. I'll post as I have time for more. For now, back to Hebrew homework! [:S]

Yeah, that'll probably have to change to 'canoe'. I had thought I would need the oldest Hebrew texts (Ex. 15, Jdg 5, etc.), but even they weren't old enough. I've been reading lots on Akkadian, Phonecian, Ugaritic and Coptic instead. Combining those with Austronesian morphosyntacic alignment is breaking my brain.

Okay, but: Hebrew canoes?
Also, Oceanians who won't eat pigs will really stand out.

I figured it was to show how the language had changed.

not forbidden by the Law.

from their perspective, it's our Oceanians who are the strange ones. :)

and if there are no pigs there, the word which meant pig, might expand to cover things which did get brought, and aren't to be eaten.

Yeah, I really have two enormous sets of reading to do: Semitic behavior in exile (which I haven't found what to read in regards to linguistics) and Polynesian/Oceanic/Austronesian daily life and language (which I have found some).

Right now, I think I've just solved the riddle of merging the tense, aspect, mood and voice systems of Hebrew binyanim and Austronesian alignment. Thank God for Ugaritic!
