I had the film memorized (I might still - dunno for sure). The book, almost. I had this trick I did with my parents as a kid: They could open the book to any page and read out a couple of lines, and I could describe their exact context. I could often quote them the rest of the page from that point.
Spoiler:
I recall middle school, in which a slightly shorter version of myself avidly followed any hints of hearsay of speculation about rumors about a fourth Jurassic Park movie, jumping at the slightest suspicion that one might be in production. The idea had been circling since 2003 - cast lists, interview quotes, even first-draft scripts. In 2008, Michael Crichton passed away, and nearly everyone thought to have been thinking about it dropped the project. At some point in high school, I gave up keeping tabs on the news. Didn't go to the theater much in college, but on one rare such event, there was a preview that seemed vaguely interesting, opening with a parent advising her children to run from things trying to eat them. Excellent, sound parenting advice, just the sort of genre-savvy idea that so evades most adults in horror and/or action films - but not especially noteworthy. Cut to a ship with "Isla Nublar" written on the side. I recall elbowing my friend beside me in the face in excitement. It was quite literally a childhood wish come true.
I hope this new one is good. Though most of me likely wouldn't give two whits if it was positively abysmal, the dregs of the scum of a pitiful reflection of all the best parts of the Mesozoic, the most horrifying thing to grace the big screen since Claudio Fragasso's notorious vegetarian goblin extravaganza. I have a feeling I'd enjoy it anyway.
