Sketchlang: Greek-sounding

Post by Keenir »

TYPE: Sketchlang.
AIM: To look/sound like Classical/Biblical Greek in the untranslated. {I'm not trying to fool scholars; just to see if I can get the feel right}

this entire thing (and more to come) will undoubtedly be overhauled at least once. (including but not limited to, reducing any one-to-one correspondence)

suggestions gladly welcome.

Re: Sketchlang: Greek-sounding Faux Anatolian

Post by Keenir2 »

owing to email troubles, had to get a new ID Name here.

GOAL: to use both {Classical} Greek and various extinct Anatolian languages (Carian, Luwian, Hurrian, Ugarit, Hittite) to shape into a naming lang or a sketchland that will at least help me handle Inktober and the naming of a few characters.

Anatolian glossary:
{}_kur = (the) land of {city}

{}_ti = you

{}_mi = me

eshtu = be_it
...formal addresses: eshtu_mi = be it to me
............eshtu_ti = be it to you

{}a -> {}ili = in the language of {}

{}w -> {}vili = in the language of {}

{}a -> {}umna = people of {}

wasu = good

kattapadda = The Lower Place

pant = all

-na = -s {plural}

huradi = soldier, troops

arom = he gave

endan = ruler, king

mara, mere = laws

gissa = stone

pd-{} = given by {}
.....example: Pdneit = That Given By Neith

For now, the following is negated...though parts (all?) may be brought into use...

sounds like it will be a phonologically conservative Greek lang with loans from Anatolian languages?
I prefer to not be referred to with masculine pronouns and nouns such as “he/him/his”.

so far, yes.

not sure how I'll divide it, if I do at all...maybe the Greek-looking for proximal & immediate things (you and I are talking, I swatted a fly)...while the Anatolian-looking parts are for distant and remote things (I sent the army to the Medes, the llama fled the puma on the mountaintop)

some parts of the Greek and Anatolian lexicon will be put through sound changes...other parts will be made to look like Classical words of the two groups
