This is a new language of mine that i very recently started working on, here are some ideas i have for it.
Currently in terms of phonology i only have this vowel inventory and possible orthographic representation for them.
/i y ɯ u/ i ü ı u
/e ø o/ e ö o
/ɑ/ a
I might throw in vowel harmony, i'm not sure how it would work.
This language will probably be agglutinating, and i might give it polypersonal agreement.
I might use vowel and consonant mutations for noun declensions, i'm not entirely sure if i like that idea though.

Re: Shönyov
You could use front-back harmony: /i y e ø/ vs. /ɯ u o ɑ/Parlox wrote:I might throw in vowel harmony, i'm not sure how it would work.
Or rounded-unrounded harmony: /i ɯ e ɑ/ vs. /y u ø o/ or /i ɯ e/ vs. /y u ø o/ with /ɑ/ as neutral vowel. I'm not sure though if rounded-unrounded harmony is attested.
Edit: It is. Turkish and Azerbaijani use both kinds of harmony next to each other, plus, their vowel inventory is relatively similar to yours (they have /a/ instead of /ɑ/, and Azerbaijani has /ə/ additionally.
Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.
Re: Shönyov
Thanks, i appreciate the help. I think i'll go with the rounding harmony.Iyionaku wrote:You could use front-back harmony: /i y e ø/ vs. /ɯ u o ɑ/Parlox wrote:I might throw in vowel harmony, i'm not sure how it would work.

Re: Shönyov
I think i'll use this inventory and orthography, although i'm not quite sure it fits the language.
/m n ɳ ɲ ŋ/ m n ṋ ny ng
/p t d ʈ ɖ c ɟ k g ʔ/ p t d ṱ ḓ ḱ ǵ k g q
/t͡s d͡z t͡ʃ d͡ʒ/ ts dz cs yz
/s z ʃ ʒ/ s z sh zh
/f v j h/ f v y h
/ʀ/ r
/l/ l
/i y ɯ u/ i ü ë u
/e ø o/ e ö o
/ɑ/ a
And this form of rounding harmony for nouns,
/i ɯ e ɑ/ vs. /y u ø o/.
As for syllable structure, i might use this.
(C)(P)V(C), where C is any consonant, P is any consonant other than a stop, and V is any vowel.
/m n ɳ ɲ ŋ/ m n ṋ ny ng
/p t d ʈ ɖ c ɟ k g ʔ/ p t d ṱ ḓ ḱ ǵ k g q
/t͡s d͡z t͡ʃ d͡ʒ/ ts dz cs yz
/s z ʃ ʒ/ s z sh zh
/f v j h/ f v y h
/ʀ/ r

Edit: Changed vowel harmony.

Re: Shönyov
Looks good. Does P exclude affricates? Do you have any phonological processes going on between syllables or as of yet undetermined?
Re: Shönyov
Yes P excludes affricates, i'm still trying to figure stuff out. I'll probably make a post on nominal morphology soon.Nachtuil wrote:Looks good. Does P exclude affricates? Do you have any phonological processes going on between syllables or as of yet undetermined?

Re: Parlox's Scratch[ad.
I don't like to make many new threads for my conlangs. So i am turning this thread into a scratchpad where i can post whatever i have recently been tinkering with.
On another note i probably won't be posting any new stuff related to Shönyov.

Re: Parlox's Scratchpad.
This post will be related to Pod's phonology.
Phoneme Inventory and Orthography
Pod has undergone three major revisions on its phonemes, because of this the orthography has changed somewhat too. Because of this a lot of the stuff posted in translations is now inaccurate.
/m n ŋ/ m n ń
/p t d t̪ d̪ ʈ ɖ k g t͡ʃ d͡ʒ/ p-ṭ t d ṱ ḓ tt dd k g-ģ ć ļ
/s z sʷ zʷ sʼ/ s z ŝ ẑ s
/f v ɹ y l/ f v r yy l
/pʼ ʈʼ/ b ḍ
/i ɪ ɯ/ y i-e u
/ɤ/ ó
/a ɑ/ a å-o
Syllable Structure
The syllable structure of Pod is (C)(G)V(C), where C is any consonant, G is any consonant but preferably a fricative, and V is any vowel. The “G” slot being used is very rare.
Stress
Stress is placed on the first syllable of a word.
