Speedlang VIII (May 4, 5, 6)
Speedlang VIII (May 4, 5, 6)
I think the last speedlang was in the fall. I could really go for another one next weekend or the one after. I am more than happy to set some terms myself but does anyone who hasn't set the terms for one before or in a while want to take the lead? I like these a lot for forcing me to explore new grammatical concepts and sometimes sounds.
Past Speedlangs (Because I like context I guess)

Edit: I'll post the terms on what is for me, Friday afternoon on the 4th.

OK, I have defined the rules and I'm not sure if I'll have the time to pop by during the weekend so here it goes:
I have felt for a long time that prosody is a topic that a lot of conlangers ignore or don’t really work on, so I want to make it central to this speedlang. I don’t want to be too restrictive, however, so them’s the rules:
-at least one prosodic element (tone, pitch, stress...) needs to fulfill an important grammatical function
-mora-based prosody is encouraged but not required
-there needs to be at least one morphophonological process motivated by prosody (e.g.: weight-sensitive vowel reduction, tone sandhi, etc.)
And now onto some rules not related to prosody:
-the language should be at least moderately non-configurational (have flexible word order)
-there should be at least 10 phonemic vowel qualities (including diphthongs and length distinction)
-there should be at least two coronal POAs in consonants
-there should be at least one post-velar consonant
-there should be a romanization and it should be underspecified (i.e., there should be some phonemic distinction not marked in the romanization)
Have fun!

Re: Speedlang VIII
you can start one (:
I prefer to not be referred to with masculine pronouns and nouns such as “he/him/his”.

Re: Speedlang VIII
I’m here to state my genuine interest, along with my likely failure to participate.
Isn’t the whole point to come up with a new language?

Ok. I'll set it for this coming weekend :) It looks like I'll probably set the terms. I'd like to participate too though. haha

Re: Speedlang VIII (May 4, 5, 6)
Nachtuil: I can gladly set the terms for the speedlang if you don't want to. If you already have something in mind, I will participate and speedlang instead.
Re: Speedlang VIII (May 4, 5, 6)
I would also like to take part, and it's my first time, so I'll just wing it!
Also, my girlfriend is called Maria, and I sing her that to annoy her all the time, so I will share your enthusiasm through that song.
What can I say? I like making stuff up.

Re: Speedlang VIII (May 4, 5, 6)
I'll take part - should have a couple of free hours this weekend.
Edit: Substituted a string instrument for a French interjection.

I think I’ll try to participate too. Should be able to piece together enough time over a couple days.
Re: Speedlang VIII (May 4, 5, 6)
gestaltist: Go for it! I don't mind at all. :)
I am excited to see new people up for this!

What's stopping anyone from setting the parameters and also participating? Have there been rules against that in the past?

Nothing, and no.shimobaatar wrote: ↑02 May 2018 22:44 What's stopping anyone from setting the parameters and also participating? Have there been rules against that in the past?
Re: Speedlang VIII (May 4, 5, 6)
Shimobaatar: You're right on that. For me personally I guess part of the fun is the spontaneity and not ruminating about it before hand but I guess no, it isn't a problem. If I run one again maybe I will contribute myself.
Re: Speedlang VIII (May 4, 5, 6)
Well, I said I was going to even if only jokingly to loglorn, and I guess the last time when I participated was technically lucrative for me, so I'll try to do this one too.
