Alert! Like it matters! I have decided to add a small amount of word initial clusters, [pɾ tɾ kɾ] to the phonology I posted last. Some sample words:

zẽi
prua
miksan
vyri
kejãir
kyaky
zhats
vais
pruirjot
puipẽl
zua
krẽkẽ
heks
reits
nihtua

Also, I've always had this one bumping around my head. It's essentially something like Salish with voiced stops:

Labial: /p pˀ b m mˀ/
Dental: /tθ tθˀ θ/
Alveolar: /t tˀ d c cˀ s z n nˀ/
Lateral: /ƛˀ ɬ l lˀ/
Palatal: /č čˀ š ž y ỷ/
Lab. velar: /kʷ kˀʷ gʷ xʷ w wˀ/
Uvular: /q qˀ χ ʁ ʁˀ/
Lab. uvular: /qʷ qˀʷ χʷ/

Vowels: /i u e a ə/

Probably crazy consonant clusters. Voiced consonants always have to appear after a vowel.

I love that phoneme set, ronin.

I have studied a bit of Lushootseed Salish, and it is a really interesting language... and REALLY hard to pronounce sometimes.

Lushootseed is sexy. I love Salish, I've done most of my actual linguistics work on Montana Salish.

I'd love to do work on Lushootseed Salish... I'm from the area it is spoken, so that would be really cool.

I'm listening to wordlists for Montana Salish now...

1 páʕəlqs grey dress
2 pəlpílʃ stagger
3 tʃʼupélsi lonesome
4 pólpəlqən thimbleberry
5 púlsəm he killed something
6 jál round
7 séliʃ Flathead, Salish
8 tmílkʷʼ always
9 (ʔi)nəʕʷóˀl(kʷ) empty

:-D

I want to make a Salish-esque language someday. I should create a phonology so I can work on it when I'm not so busy with other conlangs.

/p t k/
/s/
/m n ŋ/
/ʙ r ʀ/
/l ʟ/

/i a u/ or /i a o/

Not exactly "normal" but I like small inventories with simple syllable structures that are odd and allophonically wacky (I'm planning to have both vowel and consonant harmonies).

Someone else could use it with more complex syllables. Or whatever.

Lexical suffixes are actually pretty damn spiffy too.

Salish sentences are so bad-ass... I'm definitely doing a Salishlang someday. :D

I think I might do a Salish-inspired speed lang tonight if I have the chance/time.

Sérhes Kéttw has a metathesis process in VCVCV sequences that sort of gives it endoclitics: séma=ia /'sema=ja/ > séima /'sejma/ (=ia is the interrogative topic clitic)

This is for my newest project, the Yuh family, which is basically a pretty small family of languages I'm playing with to learn about sound changes and that kind of stuff. Most of the Yuh languages are superficially inspired by the Polynesian and Meso-American languages, particularly Hawaiian, Mayan, and Nahua. So far I have the inventories for Proto-Yuh and its most commonly-spoken direct daughter language, Otaiyan:

Code: Select all

Consonants
Stops: /p t k/ <p t k>
Fricatives: /f s h/ <f s h>
Nasals: /m n/ <m n>
Approximants: /w ɺ ʋ j/ <w l v y>

Vowels
/a a: e e: i i: ə ə: o o: u u:/ <a ā e ē i ī ä ǟ o ō u ū>

Consonant Clusters
/tj kj tɺ kɺ pɺ nɺ mɺ/

It's a little boring, but I decided to keep it simple so that it would be easier for me to learn sound changes. And here's the inventory for Otaiyan, after some sound changes:

Code: Select all

Consonants
Stops: /p b t d k g ‘/ <p b t d k g ʔ>
Fricatives: /s z h/ <s z h>
Nasals: /m n ɲ/ <m n nh>
Approximants: /l ɹ j/ <l r y>
Affricates: /t͡ʃ d͡ʒ/

Vowels
/a e i ə o u/ <a e i ǔ o u>

Consonant Clusters
/tl kl pl nl ml ɲl tɹ kɹ/

I'll probably get to another branch of the Yuh family, the Duroccan language, sometime later tomorrow or the day after that.
I now have a blog. Witness the horror.

I think I think, therefore I think I am.

-Athanic-
/p b t d k ɡ ʔ/ <p b t d c g '>
/m n ŋ/ <m n ń>
/r r̥ ɾ l l̥/ <ŕ hŕ r l hl>
/f v θ ð s z ʃ ʒ x ɣ h/ <f~ph v~bh th dh s z sh zh ch gh h>

/ĩ ẽ ɛ̃ ã ũ ɔ̃/ <į ę ę ą ų ǫ>

Allophony:
/k/ → [c] <c> /_i, _e
/g/ → [ɟ] <g>
/n/ → [ɲ] <n>
/s/ → [ɕ] <s>
/z/ → [ʑ] <z>
/x/ → [ç] <ch>
/ɣ/ → [ʝ] <gh>

Phonotactics:

CV(V/C)(C)(:)

(restrictions haven't been created yet, but I think most words will have POA cluster restrictions)

Trust me, this phonology used to be worse... it once had a pharyngeal consonant, and pharyngealized vowels...

I have a nice phonology for a language I call Vta [ʙta]. It has only bilabial and alveolar consonants.

p[b/p] t[d/t]
s[z/s]
m[m] n[n]
v[ʙ] r[r]

A small random phonology I came up with inspired by Miapimoquitch, Tokana and Numic languages.

Stop/affricates: /p t ts k q/ p t z k q
Fricatives: /θ s h/ th s h
Nasals: /m n/ m n
Resonants: /w l ɾ y/ w l r y

Short Vowels: /i ʉ u e o a/ i ü u e o a[/b]
Long vowels: /i: u: a:/ ii uu aa
Diphthongs: /ia ʉa ua ea ai/ ia üa ua ea ai

Syllables must have an onset, but word initially there may be empty onsets. Between vowels, there may occur a single consonant (any C), a geminate obstruent or nasal (except /h/), a nasal + obstruent cluster, or miscellaneous clusters. Between vowels, the stops are voiced and spirantized. After a nasal, the stops appear voiced. Fricatives are voiced after a long vowel or diphthong.High vowels are devoiced between /h/ and a voiceless consonant or after /h/ word finally:

/p t ts k q/ > [β ð z ɣ ʁ] / V_V
/mp nt nts ŋk nq/ > [mb nd n(d)z ŋg ɴɢ]
/θ s h/ > [ð z ɣ] / VV_
/i ʉ u/ > [I Ü U] / h_{C-vc, #}

Root finally, the consonants [t k s n ɾ] or a 'final feature' may occur. Other morphemes do not end in consonants, but instead end in final features. Either spirantizing (written =), geminating (written +), or nasalizing (written N). These interact with following initial consonants in various ways. I won't go into that here.

Something a little polynesian in flavor, but with a uvular twist:

/m n ŋ p t k q ʔ s h l ʍ/
/i e u o a i: e: u: o: a:/
