Re: The Collablang Take II (Check first post oft)

Post by Micamo »

In deciding phonotactics it'd be a good idea to keep in mind what kind of morphology this is supposed to implement. What's the maximum number of affixes that can appear on a word at once? 3? 5? 14?
My pronouns are <xe> [ziː] / <xym> [zɪm] / <xys> [zɪz]

I vote for at least /u/. Or at least /o/.

I could go for /o/. It'd be nice to skip /u/ for once.

So have we settled on this: /i ɨ ɯ ɛ ɜ ɤ æ a ɑ/? Or could we edit it a little...maybe something like:

/i ɨ ɯ ɛ ɤ o æ ɑ/

I actually am not partial to the three way distinction in the low vowels.

I think /æ/ and /a/ were supposed to be merged, or maybe occur in free variation or something.

But of course we can edit. Nothing has been decided yet, as far as I know.
We all have to agree before moving on.

Maybe ɑ to ɒ or ɔ?

I actually still really like this, but I guess I was the only one (other than Ronin):

If I get to vote on a specific vowel system, I'd really like to go with that one.

I'll throw my hat in the ring for that one too. Also, if we have voiceless /m n/, why not voiceless /ŋ/?

Oh, I didn't even notice the /ŋ/!

But man, <ngh> looks really ugly.
I almost want to suggest using dots for marking unvoiced nasals, but it's not really practical.

<m̊ n̊ ŋ̊>

Bwhaha, I've always wanted to use ŋ as orthography.

I think <ŋ> looks nice actually, but I'm not sure everyone agrees .

I wouldn't mind using <ŋ> to get rid of <ngh> (supposing that we add unvoiced /ŋ/, which we probably should).
<mh nh ŋh> looks pretty nice.

I vote yes to <mh nh ŋh>

Honestly, I handwrite ŋ instead of ng all the time.

Okay then. I'm not sure how many people are working on this project, but it looks like we'll be using <mh nh ŋh> (assuming we're going by majority here).

So, if everyone agrees we'll have:

/m m̥ n̥ n ŋ ŋ̥/ m n ŋ mh nh ŋh
/t k/ t k
/v~ʋ tθ~ts tɬ s ʃ h/ v tz tl s sh h
/j ɰ l r/ j w l r

Could we have the non-lateral affricate harmonize to [tʃ] when in a word with /ʃ/?
