What did you accomplish today? [2011–2019]

Post by Micamo »

What conlanging work have you been doing recently?

I've been slowly solidifying Midhera verbs, working on case suppletion in Acoi, incorporation and phonology in Blith (yet another rewrite), and most recently a verb conjugation for my own personal attempt at a CBS extension.

Edit: Continued in this thread. -Aevas, 2020-05-07

When the genitive is used as the possessive in Amjati the noun must be made definite.

I tried to solidify P1's phonology, and ended up kind of spinning it off into a very isolating language with a very similar but at the same time different phonology. It'll be interesting.

Adjusted permitted consonant clusters, tidied-up when to use several allomorphs, changed the from-comparative to a to-comparative, added tag questions and the daily 5 words.

I did fuck all. Everything I tried to do just ended in complete frustration.

I think I might be due to take a break from conlanging.

Ah, that. My idea was that, considering person marking on Midhera verbs at maximum agrees with three arguments, and what persons the verb needs to agree with depends on the verb's transitivity as well as its active-stative status, how do I differentiate a zero-marked person from the absence of agreement at all with that argument? A few ways I could handle this:

A. Simply have no zeroes anywhere within the person system. This is the option I want to avoid as Midhera verbs already get pretty long.
B. Whether the marker is a zero or a lack of agreement is determined by the context of the rest of the clause. You can tell that it's not third-person patient agreement because there's no constituent in the clause marked in the patientitive case.

And the idea I came up with while eating dinner,

C. Introduce the person markers as varying sub-slots to certain transitivity markers. The transitive marker has both A and P persons as sub-slots, but the intransitive marker has only A or P as a sub-slot. This option also allows me to be a bit more... creative with my verb conjugations without sacrificing parsability.

Good stuff, good stuff, but you should probably have 3rd and 4th person as 3prox and 3obv respectively. "Fourth person" isn't descriptive enough due to it meaning so many things.

Decided that new conlang will be polysynthetic and it will have 8 noun cases so far.
Progress is slow.
