Re: What did you accomplish today?
I started a sister language to O Kanã when I'm half-way through my exams because I do stupid things like that. Mind you, I have managed to make it feel significantly different from O Kanã, it actually has a rather Athabaskan feel I think. For example here's a comparison of an O Kanã sentence and a sentence in the new language.
ẽ sotrisĩ‘ãsataibaa o agi te o ngãga.
[ẽ soʈʳisĩʔãsa↓taɪ̯ⁿbaː o a↓ⁿgite o ŋã↓ⁿga]
ẽ so-tri-sĩ‘ã-satai-baa o agi te o ngãga
NEG 2-APPL-want-carry-1.ERG N fire ADV N river
vs.
mu dik gwe datłégeséste suł gukyeč ka ngang
[mu dik gʷɛ dat͡ɬegɛsesˈtɛ suɬ gukˈjɛt͡ʃʰ ka ŋaŋ]
mu dik gwe da-tłé-ge-<és>s(a)te suł gukyeč ka ngang
NEG 1.be want 1-APPL-TRANS-<PRF>carry 2 fire DAT river
Both translated as I don't want to carry the fire to the river for you.
Also of note are the interesting sound changes resulting in forms such as [kʷokɛʃ], [jatɬox] and [kut͡ɬ] ("eagle", "bad" and "frog") being cognate with [po↓kaɪ̯], [a↓ʈʳaʊ̯] and [põⁿɖʳi] respectively.
It might be scrapped in a few days, but I have put quite a bit of work into it so far and so I thought I'd share it.

I particularly like the perfect infix and the prevalence of g.

The language shares the perfective infix with O Kanã, though due to the sound changes involved it has two variant forms depending on conjugation class (that's another thing with this language: I've now finally started a language with conjugation classes!).DesEsseintes wrote:Nice!Frislander wrote:mu dagweš datłégesésteš suł gukyeč ka ngang

Re: What did you accomplish today?
Finally started to do some work on adjectives. I don't know why I always make them such a low priority. I've decided to have adjectives formed in every noun class. But the ones based on the PIE thematic declension are the largest class :)
Re: What did you accomplish today?
My main conlang project now has a total of 136 words, i have also made its definite article even more complex
I have also started to learn welsh and spanish, Nos da ffrindiau!

It is impossible for me to come up with languages without fleshing them into something beyond just a naming language.
The language has changed enough to warrant it as new:
Balícabḍanikne
/pali:qaptʂanikʰne/
/m n ɳ/ <m n ṇ>
/pʰ p tʰ t kʰ k qʰ q/ <p b t d k g q c>
/f s ʂ χ/ <f s ṣ h>
/tʂʰ tʂ/ <ṭ ḍ>
/r l w j/ <r l w y>
/a a: ɒ ɒ: e e: ø ø: i i: y y:/ <a á ä a̋ e é o ó i í u ú>
Given the behaviour of the vowels, it could just as well be analyzed that it only has 3 vowels (+length).
It has three genders of which its classified are classed as such by the last vowel of the root:
ä,o,u = feminine
a,e,i = masculine
no vowel = neuter
Some example declensions of nouns:

Maps & more maps!
Today, while working on one of Gea's equatorial maps, I discovered that there is, at the westsouthern tip of Sandhia, a very ancient city resting very gracefully at 0deg east, 0deg north.
Dunno much about Sandhia, except that it forms the eastern border of the Sea of Sandh and is home to the Jintu, the easternmost of Men. West across that Sea lie the broad lands of Demeteia the Cracked; to the north lie Ymmalea and Alanea.
Course, everyone knows they have oliphants there. But then again, everywhere has oliphants of some kind or other! But down there they've whopping big ones and they don't have any hair! and they use them as armoured archery platforms.
So, that's four maps done thus far...

Re: What did you accomplish today?
With the kind help of fellow board members, I'm starting to figure out what to do with nasal vowels that get produced in an early form of my cat lang.
Re: What did you accomplish today?
I created a sentence in two daughter languages.
Paliqapkanikne:
Umot éhadáṣ aṇí vigṣílmet.
[y.møtʰ e:.χa.ta:ʂ a.ɳi: vik.ʂi:l.metʰ]
1.NOM.PL snake.ACC.SG DEF kill-PST-PL
Kuamiqabzhanikni:
Ummot vigarásilmet arn-íhadiars.
[um'mot vi.ga.ra:sil'met ar.ni:.ħa.di'ars]
1.NOM.PL kill-PST-PL DEF-snake.ACC.SG
English:
We killed the snake.

Re: What did you accomplish today?
Why is the subject "we" in the accusative case in both languages?

It tries to be like a mix of Hungarian, Chinese pinyin, and Indo-Aryan romanization.

In order to create a complete language specification, I just managed to go through my dictionary and list all Yélian prepositions.
So I found out there are 63 prepositions in Yélian, although I have to admit that it feels like I have never heard about 20 of them before.

Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.

Re: What did you accomplish today?
I've been reacquainting myself with Japanese diachronics, in particular the vowel system of Old Japanese and the derivation of its eight-vowel system from an earlier four-vowel system. I therefore compiled this table of Old Japanese syllables, ignoring prenasalised stops.
I'm doing this because I want to see if I can derive a little toylang from it as per the recent 26-syllable challenge in the random phonologies thread.
Just to spice things up a bit, here's a sample sentence in TinyJap (the project's working title):
Shitsuu-wa ure-nnu neemi-n winnichi.
The people went into the village.
Code: Select all
a i ɨ u e əy o ə
a yi iy u e ey wo ö
a i u o
ka ki kɨ ku ke kəy ko kə
sa si su se so sə
ta ti tu te to tə
pa pi pɨ pu pe pəy po pə
na ni nu ne no nə
ma mi mɨ mu me məy mo mə
ra ri ru re ro rə
wa wi we wo
ya yu ye yo yə

No, you want the six-vowel hypothesis.

Re: What did you accomplish today?
Now that the school year is done, I have more time to dedicate to conlanging. I've made several changes to Shonkasika recently:
A couple of orthographic changes:
/kw/ <q>
/xw/ <qh>
/ɲ/ <ny>
I came up with an origin/etymology for the future tense form based on an old hypothetic verb form which has fallen out of disuse (basically a type of ablaut). It survives in a suffix that forms the new regular future tense and in the irregular future tense forms of a few verbs.
Along with that, I worked a bit on my irregular verbs, which contain a mixture of a few suppletive forms and irregular futures, based on the old hypothetic. See more about these last two changes here.
