IPA pl0x? Especially for lambda-stroke?

What? ƛ' = /tɬ'/ in IPA. I'm using Americanist(basically).Micamo wrote:IPA pl0x? Especially for lambda-stroke?
yes. Ejective fricatives are extremely uncommon.Glottalized nasals but no ejective fricatives?
Re: A communal conlang - Join!
Less common than glottalized resonants? That just doesn't sound right... I would think glottalization would decrease in likelyhood up the sonority hierarchy.

Nope. Glottalized resonants are all over the place in the Northwest (every Salishan language has them, Wakashan I'm pretty sure as well), whereas glottalized fricatives are really uncommon.Micamo wrote:Less common than glottalized resonants? Well that's something new! Airstream mechanisms must be totally separate from voicing in the brain's underlying phoneme-recognization structure then. I wonder what other patterns separate airstream from voicing?roninbodhisattva wrote:Nope. As it should! Clicks are nasty...roninbodhisattva wrote:That phonology maks me wanna punch you.

I would be in, but it seems too dim.

Re: A communal conlang - Join!
Don't we have a voting system in place...ie, people make proposals, Tyhoeciyh takes the votes, etc:
Also, Milyamd...you're making a proposal but not joing? What?
EDIT: Oops, I thought you were quoting him, didn't realize what you were doing. Though I stick with my comment about not changing the way we're doing things the way Tyhoeciyh set it up...Voting:
- Only registered conlangers may vote.
- Conlangers may vote only once per topic. (Changing one's vote is allowed.)
- If only one idea has been proposed regarding one topic, voters may simply choose to vote it down. This may not be done if the number of ideas is plural.
- Votes must be either private messaged to the Conlang Director (preferrably) or posted in this thread.
- Voters may only vote for one idea per topic.
- No more than five ideas may be put up for vote per topic.
- The idea with the majority of votes per topic will be chosen. If there is a tie, it will be voted on in the next vote.
- Votes will be tallied sometime each Tuesday (UTC).
Also, Milyamd...you're making a proposal but not joing? What?
Re: A communal conlang - Join!
I figured it wasn't necessary to quote it. :-|roninbodhisattva wrote:If you're quoting someone, why not use the quote tag?

Well then, let's keep it clear here, we have one proposal for an inventory with some small issues, i.e. glottals, palatalization, etc.

Re: A communal conlang - Join!
Yeah, sorry about that, I realized what you were doing after I posted.ian9113 wrote:I figured it wasn't necessary to quote it.
The thing it's confusing for one person to propose an inventory and then the others to say, make their proposals modifications. I think the process of choosing a phonology will be more coherent if we each propose something like an inventory and then modify it with further votes. So if you like my inventory but don't want any glottalized resonants/want to add palatalization or something, post an inventory with those modifications and then we'll vote on my proposals.
It just seems like Tyhoeciyh what had in mind? Maybe I'm wrong about that, though. Unless you are saying what I'm saying. Idk.

Yeah that's cool and I'm throwing my vote behind it.
Phonotactics is one of the many areas where I suck in conlanging.

Re: A communal conlang - Join!
Well if we are going to propose an inventory, then I would like to propose mine, a bit more European but with more fricatives:
Note the /ɾ/, which I wanted to use because I personally like it better than a trilled /r/, and it is easier for me personally to pronounce.
I have no idea what phonotactics are, so, umm... yeah. I'll try my best at setting a few rules here based on what I can gather from the Wikipedia article:
Roots can be CV, CVC, CCV, CCVC, CCVCC, CCCV, CCCVC.
Words follow a two-tone system; low and high. The first V in a word is always high, and the last V in a word is always low. In single-V words, the tone is either or, depending on mood (non-grammatical), but generally high.
/ç/ occurs after the vowels /i, y, u, e/ while /ʝ/ occurs after /ə, o, ɑ/.
Palatalization occurs in plosive (p, b, t, d) and labial (m, n) consonants when they are last in a word or precede /i, y, u, e/.
If I'm missing a necessary part of phonotactics, please tell me. :-)

Re: A communal conlang - Join!
A few important notices:
RULE CHANGE: From now on, votes and idea proposals must be sent to me. Please title vote "VOTE" and idea proposal "IDEA".
(It was getting kind of hard to look for things through all the posts. This should keep it more organized.)
Remember, idea proposals can range from general to detailed.
For example: "All consonants must be fricatives" or a full list of all consonants. If a more general idea is elected, it will be narrowed down in further votes.

Also, those of you who posted phoneme inventory pictures, could you please type them out in a post? Thank you.
Re: A communal conlang - Join!
...I almost want to join this thanks to Ronin's inventory.
But I have my own projects to worry about.

I propose this:

/l/
/i e a ɑ u/

Re: A communal conlang - Join!
I'm in. If you guys will let me
Anyways, I would like to propose a phonemic inventory...please take a look at it 'n lemme know what you guys think.
Nasal---------/m n ɲ ŋ ɴ/
Plosive-------/pʰ tʰ cʰ kʰ qʰ/
--------------/p t c k q/
Fricative-----/f s ç x χ/
Trill--------------/r/
Approximants-/l j/
/a e i o/
Perhaps long vowels and palatalization? I dunno. I just thought this was a neat inventory...I'm thinking about using it for a Pagan language.
EDIT: Fixed
