In this translation, both the speaker and addressee are assumed to be human, since they were in the original poem. The inflection would be different if they were members of the Htolian species in the world within which this language exists.

You are translating Catullus, so adding a little poetic patina to the proceedings, unless you're really going for a beatnik poetry-slam feel, would not necessarily be out of place. Bring on the , I'd say.

I would, but these verbs sound old-fashioned in a "That's the bee's knees" kind of way.

This gave me a nice chance to come up with a new idiom "cut across" meaning to cause deep pain, which is a nice difference from English.
