So this is a question about identification (Who are you?) and a response that says 1sg = 1sg. Since langauges differate quite much on this things with copula and maybe also on the pronouns somehow I thought that I give that definition above.

:swe:
1. Vem är du? / Vem e du?
2. Jag är jag / Ja e ja

:eng:
1. Who are you?
2. I am me

I am fairly confident "I am me" is more common than your version.

The difference is maybe mostly one of style, in which case "I am I" is either a) archaizing, b) some attempt at being "grammatically correct" by someone who reads rather conservative prescriptivists or has had a teacher tell them that it's "it is I" or such due to influence from such prescriptivists. So there's either a sociolinguistic bit or stylistic bit to the difference.
