To me, sort of. Above, the sense is that the lizard just happens to be on the street, crazy or not.Bagliun Edar wrote: I am crazy like a road lizard!

Tell me whether or not "road lizard" means that.
diría yo «soy loco como la lagartija callejera»
o «soy loco como la lagartija de las calles»
To me, these mean more of "a lizard who frequents the streets", which, as with Frogger, is a pretty deleterious situation in which to engage.
Plus, I used "ser" to make the insanity more innate and incurable. You could use "ser" or "estar" with loco, though. I'm stuck with being crazy like a road-lizard. But I like it!

Re: I am crazy like a road lizard
Around here, we use a similar expression to mean what I think it means:Lambuzhao wrote:To me, sort of. Above, the sense is that the lizard just happens to be on the street, crazy or not.

"Estoy más loco que una cabra."
Lit: "I'm crazier than a goat."
Hmm, around here using "ser" with "loco" sounds odd. I always have heard "loco" being used with "estar", but I know it could be different somewhere else.Lambuzhao wrote:Plus, I used "ser" to make the insanity more innate and incurable. You could use "ser" or "estar" with loco, though.
EDIT: I take that back. I just remembered a usage where "loco" is used with "ser". Usually, when someone acts impulsively or daringly, he could say "yo soy loco", or someone could say "ese es loco".
Re: I am crazy like a road lizard
In , friends used to tell me endearingly
Eres un loco
With an accompanying shake of the head that meant I was beyond all help, irredeemably so,
but in a strangely comforting way.
I have to admit I have heard plenty of expressions using estar, like
¿Estás loco, o qué?
But I could be wrong. Heck, Peruvians don't talk good Spanish, anyhways. Just ask any Chilean {TORCO!}
But remember,
a lizard in the road (lagarto en la calle) ain't crazy
He's just plain stupid!

That expression is used here too.Lambuzhao wrote:I have to admit I have heard plenty of expressions using estar, like

Here in Puerto Rico, we don't speak "good Spanish" either.But I could be wrong. Heck, Peruvians don't talk good Spanish, anyhways. Just ask any Chilean {TORCO!}
But well, I prefer to think in terms of "textbook Spanish" rather than "good Spanish". After all a spoken language is a living one while a textbook one is not necessarily a living one.
I agree.But remember,
a lizard in the road (lagarto en la calle) ain't crazy

EDIT: I want to add that just around here, the literal translation sounds alien. "Lagarto de carretera" may be interpreted as some species of lizard unknown to the listener, questions would follow it. I think it's an idiomatic expression, so I'd translate it as "Estoy más loco que una cabra" for puertorricans.

I think the English would sound better like this: "I'm as crazy as a road lizard".

It's actually a quote. Also, the way it is presented is perfectly cromulent.Dormouse559 wrote:I think the English would sound better like this: "I'm as crazy as a road lizard".

Re: I am crazy like a road lizard
Of course, no change necessary for quotes. I still don't like the phrasing though. It sounds awkward to me. And it gives me the impression that there must be some literal "road lizard" this person is comparing themselves to, rather than something figurative like a "card shark" or "party animal" … Unless that is in fact the case, in which case, some context would've been lovely.Thakowsaizmu wrote:It's actually a quote. Re: I am crazy like a road lizard
I also have problem with the translation.
The problems are the meaning of "road lizard" (lizard that dwells in roads, lizard in a road...) and the use of "ser" and "estar".
We use 'estar' when the person is not crazy usually.
"This event has annoyed me. I am crazy."
We use 'ser' when the person is always crazy.
"My ideas always have unexpected outcome. I am crazy."
