Ngolu 2.0 / Iliaqu

The normal romantic phrase would be.
  • Lai uas ene.
    be.romantically.loved NOM.2s.ACS DAT.1s.ACS
I love you. - [accessible mode]
In other speech modes (coded by use of first and second person nominals)
  • lai vu eni [inaccessible mode - on bad terms, either feeling the love right now or not able to handle touch right now but making it clear to your partner that the love is still there]
lai uas eni [dominant mode - dominant or angry]
lai vu ene [submissive mode - submissive or you've done something wrong and trying to get back into your partner's good books])
Non-sexual love between friends and family replaces the verbal lai with hualo, which essentially means |DAT| cares deeply about |NOM|. There is also migo, ≈ |DAT| feels connected to |NOM|, which is most commonly used for familial love and can either be a good or a bad emotion.

With all of these verbs, in very informal speech, the accusative case may replace the dative. This results in a dropping of the e- from the beginning of the dative nominals as well as any epenthetic -s on the end of the word before the e- (eg. lai uas enelai ua ne).
Glossing Abbreviations: COMP = comparative, C = complementiser, ACS / ICS = accessible / inaccessible, GDV = gerundive, SPEC / NSPC = specific / non-specific, AG = agent, E = entity (person, animal, thing)

I love you (romantic)

Damdi ma anrume karéi.
to give-1PS 2PS-DAT (romantic) love-ACC forever

It wouldn't be really romantic without "karéi" at the end of the sentence.

Goerim 2.0.

ainn is root 'be happy, have positive feelings'

(1) si-ainn
sg1-be_happy
'I am happy.'

It can have an argument in the oblique case which is considered the subject. So the verb is closer to 'to please', when transive.

(2) si-ainn ba-o
sg1-be_happy sg2-OBL
'I like you.'

The verb can be specified by an obligue argument, which is formally identical to the stimulus.

(3) si-ainn ba-o ll-pael-e
sg1-be_happy sg2_OBL DEF-sexuality_OBL
'I love you sexually.'

pael is an abstract noun 'sexuality, romance, attraction'

(3) could be a subordinate clause 'that I love you'. Main clauses usually need a conjunction that joins it with the preceding clause.

(4) si-ainn-a ba-o ll-pael-e
sg1-be_happy-and sg2_OBL DEF-sexuality_OBL
'I love you sexually.'

Siainna bao ll'paele.

Ja dagocuń wa. Or, if you want to be even more romantic but less grammatically correct, ja dagocuf wa. That's because uń is the suffix for present-tense verbs, since you are currently loving them. But, uf is the suffix for forever-tense verbs, meaning you have and will always love them.

  • Na i le wo.
    [ˌna‿i̯ ˈle wo]
    1s COP love.AG GEN.2s
    I love you.
This is used for good friends, good family members as well as romantic relationships without the paranoia of saying it too soon in a relationship in lots of contemporary Western cultures. Le is an all-round positive word indicating fondness and benevolence towards someone. It generally isn't used with acquaintances or friends who are not especially close. To indicate stronger love in a romantic context, either lele or bale is used, with the former specifying that it is romantic love and the latter specifying the intensity (more akin to "be in love with").

To say that you simply like someone, there is no designated word. You just say that you think someone is good. This can be used with anyone.
  • (Na i zyu) wa i ho.
    [(ˌna‿i̯ ˈʒu) ˌwa‿i̯ ˈho]
    (1s COP GEN.C) 2s COP good.E
I like you. / (I think) you are good.
