The Tiger
The Tiger
The tiger is orange with black stripes.
Gaku:
Mera garataike nea kilu lengokko o kia.
mera gara-taike nea kilu le-ngokko o kia
orange cat-tiger COP stripe PL-black GEN 3s
In Gaku, this sentence has to consist of two clauses, since the two kinds of predicates (the adjectival 'orange' and the prepositional 'with black stripes') require different strategies.
Also, 'mera' can mean either 'red' or 'yellow'. (You might of course substite this colour with whatever colour(s) tigroids have in your conworld.)
Note also the construction 'mera garataike' - an unmarked (singular) form of the adjective, but without the singulative article ('ta') in front of the noun. This signifies that we are talking about a general fact. Compare this with:
mera ta garatake ('a/the tiger is orange' - some (particular) tiger satisfies this colour criterion)
meramera garatake ('some/the tigers are orange')

Re: The Tiger
Japanese
I had trouble translating it literally from English without sounding super weird, so I have interpreted it:
虎の模様は、黄色と黒の縞々である。
Tora no moyō wa, kiiro to kuro no shimashima de-aru.
tiger GEN pattern TOP yellow and black GEN striped be.FORM
LIT: "The tiger's pattern is black and yellow stripes."
Typically Japanese people consider tigers to be yellow and black, not orange and black. This is weird, because modern Japanese clearly does not lack the concept of orange, but people still persist in calling it yellow.
Check this out: A Japanese-language Google image search for tiger clip art
Most of the tigers are clearly way more yellow than real tigers.

More natural translation would be:
Asturjavik orannar ki kisisk varnile ir ta o.
a-sturjavik o-ranna-r ki kisi-sk var-nile i-r ta o
the-tiger it-be.orange.PRS and be.black-PTCP PL-stripe COP.they-PRS LOC it
The tiger is orange and has black stripes.
Somewhat more literal version:
Asturjavik kisisk varnileik orannar.
a-sturjavik kisi-sk var-nile-ik o-ranna-r
the-tiger be.black-PTCP PL-stripe-ADV it-be.orange-PRS
The tiger is black-stripe-ish orange.
I took the liberty of translating tiger as sturjavik: big-cat

Edit: This is outdated. Today one one would write fecun goliydanarák instead of fecun'goli∙ydanarák. Also, the pronounciation has changed from [goliʃdana'rak] to [golʃdanrak].

There's no word for tiger so I've just borrowed from English.
weaetadraa o taiga te ii wesa nãtoiri.

The tiger is orange with black stripes.
This was the best way I could think of to translate it, with the "black stripes" being an adverbial adjunct as in the English, and I'd also be tempted to focus it was well, which would give the following;
se te ii wesa nãtoiri weaetadraa o taiga.

se te ii wesa nãtoi-ri weae-tadraa o taiga

Re: The Tiger
Yesterday I was thinking really hard about what a tiger would be in my conworld, since there are no terrestrial mammals *there*. I was thinking about maybe having something like a 'terror bird' or a 'thunder bird'. Maybe also some 'giant ow'. I really don't know which flightless birds are most similar to tigers.
