Did the /ʲy/ come from some breaking, and if so, of pG *ōshimobaatar wrote: ↑06 Aug 2018 06:02 It came down to a choice between this word and another one, but I figured that this one might be a little less obvious. I'll probably use the other word I was considering the next time it's my turn.
Language: Modern Königsberg Northeast Germanic
Word: wjytsfilps
IPA: /ˈʋʲytsfilps/

Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Another hint: the first word in the compound was vowel-initial in Proto-Germanic.

Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Another hint, although this was probably obvious: Both words in the compound are nouns, and were nouns in Proto-Germanic.
I'm afraid this is going to come off as passive-aggressive or something like that, but I'm going to ask anyway, because I'm genuinely curious, and it feels weird to just keep throwing hints out into the void: Is anyone else still interested in playing this game?

In the first root of the word, was the vowel *u or *ū? And was this later umlauted?

The root of the first word was uCC- in Proto-Germanic.
This looks like the same question you asked in your last post, unless I'm misreading something? Did you mean to ask something different?

Whoops, totally blanked on that one. Is the second root descended from *hwelpaz?shimobaatar wrote: ↑10 Oct 2018 22:19This looks like the same question you asked in your last post, unless I'm misreading something? Did you mean to ask something different?

Is the second C in the first root and alveolar stop?
Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Does it come from *unþī plus *hwelpaz? “Wave-whelp?”
