With a perfective prefix, yes. Semantically, it's quite specific in meaning. I'm not sure if it will be easy to guess, but if you get close I'll give it to you.shimobaatar wrote: ↑06 Apr 2018 22:40 So, to recap, the masculine nominative singular present participle of "to cut"?
Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Got it.
It's used as a noun… does it refer to a person?

If by physical you mean inanimate...then no.
Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
I meant "as opposed to a concept", but this makes me wonder if it's an animal?

I keep trying to give other people a chance to guess, but I never learn my lesson.
Anyway, is this animal larger than a person?

Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Is it used as a name for a specific species or is it used as something an animal can be (predator etc.)?

Yes it is.
To help speed this along I’ll elaborate a bit more here. It is used for a specific type/use of a specific species. For example, “ewe” specifically means a female sheep while “ram” is male and “lamb” is young. It’s in that same vein. (I guess you can rule out those three as options too haha)

Would it be reasonable to call it dangerous?

Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
I suppose any large mammal could be considered dangerous. But no, it’s not normally considered dangerous in the way say, a bear would.
I’ll go ahead and narrow it down further since this has been going on for so long...it’s a type of farm animal.
Re: Guess the Word in Germanic Conlangs
Thank you.
Is it a cow? Or bull, I suppose?
