Does it mean "hopeful" or "hopefully"?
Edit: Okay, that doesn't explain nasalization so it's definitely not.
Wipe the glass. This is the usual way to start, even in the days, day and night, only a happy one.

And does the first 'h' correspond to ME *h

It is definitely one morpheme in FE and it was more than one morpheme before ME. Don't really know if it is analyzable in ME, though. If we use the pre-ME morpheme analysis it yields [hɪ˥̃]-[ɸœf]-0. The last morpheme was lost on the way to FE.

I keep reading "ME" as "Middle English".

Anyway, does the tone on the first syllable of [hɪ̃˥ɸœf] come from just the loss of the coda nasal?

No, it was the stressed syllable in MoE. Is that a better abbreveation?
