Re: There's a snake in my boot!
You said there's a snake in your boat (/o:/), not boot (/u:/).
Re: There's a snake in my boot!
Oh lord! False friend alert!
That means it's wrong for Yélian as well. Unlike the word for boat, I don't know the one for "boot" by heart.
(You know, I saw that you were using "stivla" and thought about where that word might come from. )

Re: There's a snake in my boot!
Germans sometimes loan the English word "boot" ... pronounced with /u:/

Re: There's a snake in my boot!
I already posted a Mandarin translation above... And your translation feels a bit ungrammatical to me. Prepositional phrases such as those starting with 在 usually go before the verb, and in the cases where they are placed after the verb, they are usually the last element of the sentence (if the verb has an object, it must be moved before the verb with 把, e.g. 把书放在桌子上 "put the book on the table"). However, existential sentences of the form "there's a X in/on/at Y" usually follow the form "Y有X"; the location is often followed by a locational postposition such as 里 or 上, but 在 is not necessary in this case.Iyionaku wrote: Mandarin

I find GrandPiano's translation most natural:GrandPiano wrote:I already posted a Mandarin translation above... In certain contexts, I think you could get away with:GrandPiano wrote:我的靴子裡有一條蛇!
Wǒ de xuēzi li yǒu yī tiáo shé!
There's a snake in my boot!
有一條蛇在我的靴子裡!
Yǒu yī tiáo shé zài wǒ de xuēzi lǐ!
reminiscent of:
有人在(这里)吗?
Y a quelqu'un?
Is anybody here?
So, using GP's above schéma:
Y有X
有X在Y
有在YX
