I just started a Linguistics YT Channel

Post by Shemtov »

Many children make up, or begin to make up, imaginary languages. I have been at it since I could write.

Decent! I can't help but feel you could do with writing and practicing with a script beforehand though.

Yay, someone mentioned my favourite alignment :D

> Philippine alignment is very hard to understand.
Nah, it's just that the Austronesian/trigger alignment is underused and wrongly explained by most conlangers ;)

> The verb is marked (such) that the noun that takes a certain case marker is always in this case.
No. There are such things as triggerlangs without cases.

> Focus
No. The trigger morphosyntactic alignment is NOT primarily a focus system. It is entirely independent. A triggerlang can have focus systems, while others may not.

For example, your "pretend this is English/SVO" example is cute, but it does not demonstrate the purpose of triggers at all. It's merely a focus system there.

I was simplifying the explanation of Philippine alignment. I may note in Episode 3 that fact, and an in-depth look will be a future episode.
