I had to listen to you guys saying "sneke kakom" multiple times on podcast number 43, it was highly amusing.

In about which minute(s) of that podcast, is your prediction located? I don't have time to listen to all 50+ minutes of it.

Oh, Wateu, Welsh and questions.
So far I form questions in Iriex with reduplication on the verb (used to be a particle, but I changed that to a negation particle) and I'd been thinking of ways to form questions in clauses which contain no verbs: Well timed!

I have to completely disagree with the last podcast. Although the movie was terrible, the Barsoom series is good. And whoever said John Carter was not interesting... well, clearly he understands not the Sword and Planet genre or the literature of the time.

Perhaps if I get to some of the later books I will change my mind, but I fully understand that many of the things I don't like about the books are tropes of the time. John Carter is a Mary Sue, and inexplicably not human as well (he is immortal, for reasons that have not been revealed in what I have read so far, though I suspect that will come). Deja Thoris is a very weak female character -- with Sola being somewhat better (I understand that there is a much more progressive female character later in the books, I have not read that far). This is all compounded by some things I find thoroughly annoying about the writing, like the fact that John reminds us far too often about how brave and duty-bound he is and about why he can jump so high on Mars. The world is cool, as long as I understand that much of it involves outdated theories about race.*

*Outdated theories about RACE, not about Mars. I don't care that ERB's Mars is fanciful by modern standards -- that's fine. But the whole idea of the greatest race in Martian history being fair-skinned and fair-haired, and the weird rigidity of Martian cultures, among other things, amounts to a great deal of values dissonance for me.

I enjoyed the movie from a "its a movie" standpoint, but I disliked how unforgiving it was with the sci-fi at the start. It made me feel as if I had walked into a movie that was running part 2 of something and not the first installment. I also got a very "The South shall rise again" vibe. what with one of the main characters stating something akin to : "We must resist" --but if you give in your people will live--- "But living as second class (people) under thier way of rule is NOT victory" But then that might have just been me reading too much into it

They did cram a whole lot of the Barsoom mythos in for no good reason. The Therns are not even mentioned in the first book at all. I didn't get any kind of "South will rise" thing. Perhaps you were influenced by the background about John Carter being a Confederate soldier (which was in the book, though the bit about his wife getting killed on Sherman's March or somesuch was invented for the movie, as was the idea of the US army trying to forcibly recruit him).

Question: Is it alright if I submit a top-of-the show greeting as a video?

Um, sure, but it's an audio podcast so I'll basically just capture the audio from it. Do you want me to link to said video in the shownotes?

Nah. I wasn't sure how to record things without using a video.

In the Conlangery drinking game, you have to take a drink any time George says something along the lines of "That's interesting, because the same thing happens in Chinese". ;)
ETA: Apparently someone has actually made this joke before, because George just mentioned it. I'm amused.

Oh, I started saying that a long time ago, because I noticed myself that I tend to mention Chinese a lot.

Some other things that you might add:
- William says something crazy about Ancient Greek
- William corrects me on a misconception
- Mike asks a question that leads to a 5-minute tangent

... anybody want to add to the list? Bonus points to anyone who actually develops this into a proper drinking game (including amounts like "sip", "drink", and "finish your drink"). I only wish we could have properly written this out before Bianca left, because "Bianca hates something" would definitely be on the list. Oh! And another one:

- George complains about Klingon's phonology (finish your drink)

I'm kind of a fan of analytical and/or isolating languages. Wateu is analytical, though not really isolating since it has quite a lot of derivational and compound morphology. At least a couple of my scrapped project (or they may still be semi-alive; I may take up working on them someday if I have time) are also on the analytical/isolating side.

One of them was quite radically isolating. Another had some derivational morphology, but neither inflection nor compounding.

Something that would be interesting to see is a (con)lang that's very synthetic when it comes to inflections, but with no derivational or compound morphology (that is, the opposite of the Malay/Indonesian type of languages).
