Yeah, if my rusty high school Latin is anything to go on, that looks like it could be wrong; isn't there a way to get "what has been written" into one word? (I might take a shot at it later, but this is finals week, so "later" is a while off.)

First, I'm not getting tattooed (it's for a friend); second, it's not for now. We'll see. @_@

I know. That's why I used impersonal constructions with regards to the tattooing. :3 You're still the middle hand here.

Traditional characters? How come?

Maybe the choice of flag icon gives it away?

I'm bad at flags, so it didn't (staying at the CBB is great help for that, though, so never take them away, Aszev!). What are the differences between Taiwanese and Mandarin?

You can compare that sentence in Taiwanese (Taiwanese Minnan):
/ɕia2.luai3.e5.tai7.tɕi3.tsuat8.tui3.e7.huat4.siŋ1./ or /ɕia2.luai3.e5.tai7.dʑi3.it4.tiŋ7.e7.huat4.siŋ1/

with the one in Mandarin (a more standard version of Taiwanese Mandarin is used here) :
/ɕie3.ɕia4.lai2.tɤ.ʂɨ4.tsʰiŋ2.kʰɤn3.tiŋ4.huei4.fa1.ʂɨŋ1/ (xiě xiàlái de shìqíng kěndìng huì fāshēng)
or
/ɕie3.ɕia4.lai2.tɤ.ʂɨ4.tsʰiŋ2.tɕye2.tuei4.huei4.fa1.ʂɨŋ1/ or /ɕie3.ɕia4.lai2.tɤ.ʂɨ4.tsʰiŋ2.i1.tiŋ4.huei4.fa1.ʂɨŋ1/

Let's try that :lat: once again.

One possibility -

quod scriptum faciendum est.
REL.N.SG.NOM write-PFT.PASS.PTCP.N.SG.NOM make-OBLIG.PTCP.N.SG.NOM be-PRS.3SG
Lit. "what was written is to be done"

Spoiler: show
See, the gerundive faciendum has to do duty for facere "to make" (ACT) and fieri "to happen, become" (PASS).

Three other ways use impersonal auxilliary verbs + fieri, which somehow seems less elegant than the gerundive, but no less :lat:

quod scriptum fieri oportet
REL.N.SG.NOM write-PFT.PASS.PTCP.N.SG.NOM make-PRS.PASS.INFIN behoove-PRS.3SG
what was written must happen

quod scriptum fieri opus est
REL.N.SG.NOM write-PFT.PASS.PTCP.N.SG.NOM make-PRS.PASS.INFIN work-N.SG be-PRS.3SG
what was written must happen

quod scriptum fieri necesse est
REL.N.SG.NOM write-PFT.PASS.PTCP.N.SG.NOM make-PRS.PASS.INFIN necessity-N.SG be-PRS.3SG
what was written must happen

Spoiler: show
***NB: I believe the last necesse est is a kind of relex of the Ancient :grc: ἀνάγκη ἐστί.
The Romans were always cutting and pasting :grc: modes of expression into :lat:.

Still a fifth option, the shortest of all, could be -

Scriptum ac factum
write-PFT.PASS.PTCP.N.SG.NOM CNJ make-PFT.PASS.PTCP.N.SG.NOM
No sooner written than done

Spoiler: show
In it's pithy, Hemingwayesque brevity, it may be the most :lat: of all. :wat:

Personally, I think it oughtta be -

interdum quod scriptum fit
ADV REL.N.SG.NOM write-PFT.PASS.PTCP.N.SG.NOM happen-PRS.3SG
Sometimes what is written happens.
[>_<]

That which is written must occur.

(Not quite sure how to conjugate into the perfect tense into adjectival verb forms in Korean.
Also, glossing question: if something spans across a morpheme boundary how exactly do I represent that in the gloss? In Korean to express the idea of "must VERB" the conjugation is "VERB-ya dwae" the "ya" being attached to the verb and the "dwae" appearing as a standalone word in itself. Here I just repeated "must" in the gloss twice but I wanted to know if there was a fancy symbol or something I'm supposed to use.)
