Famous CBB Quotes Thread
Since ZBB has its own quote thread, I wanted to add one for this forum too. :D
When you see someone saying something silly, put it here.

The unfortunate effect of posting this out-of-context is that this makes eldin look like a twit rather than a joker. :|Visinoid wrote:Since ZBB has its own quote thread, I wanted to add one for this forum too. :D

eldin raigmore wrote:Your phonology has way too many front-vowel phonemes and way too few central-vowel phonemes. I advise you to re-do your 'lang with a more symmetrical arrangement of most front-vowels being matched by back-vowels at the same "height" (closeness), and also with some more central-vowels (though not as many as back-vowels).Ceresz wrote:These are the vowel phonemes:
Also, your front-vowels are too concentrated in the "closer" section of the chart; it looks like nearly all the vowels that are front of center are also closer than open-mid. If you're going to have that many front- and near-front-vowels, you should spread them out more and have more of them be near-open and open and open-mid.
Are you aware that the name of your conlang is in fact the name of an actual natlang?

It wasn't intended that way. -_- I haven't come up with the idea, I've stolen it from ZBB. :|

Am I the only person who's very bothered by how nesting getFurtherInfo() and isNeeded() that way would almost certainly return a type error?Trailsend wrote:Code: Select all

xingoxa wrote:You know the new rules. You should provide glosses and preferably also IPA/X-SAMPA. I don't even know the name of this lang. It is very Englishy, indeed - in fact, most of the words in the sentence are also valid English words....rickardspaghetti in the translations subforum wrote:You've been playing Skyrim, I see.
Since you have no glosses, we have to guess what you mean.
"Skyrim" and "I" are both capitalised, does it mean they are nominals? And maybe "You've" also? Is the apostrophe a letter (a glottal stop or something?) Or does it have a some grammatical function? Does it perhaps mark "ve" as a clitic?
Suppose your sentence mean something like "They told me about dragons". There are three nominals - "they", "me" and "dragons". Perhaps "ve" is the plural marker.
"You've" would then be "dragons". Since the two word, "I see", is separated from the rest of the sentence by a comma, I guess it less important in some sense.
My guess for a gloss is this:
You've been playing Skyrim, I see.
you-ve been play-ing Sky-rim, I see
dragons.PL about tell-PST 1SG-DAT, 3PL did
"Dragons about told me, they did"
Am I wrong? Again, if you don't provide glosses, it's really hard.
And I still have no idea about how to pronounce that sentence.

CBB quotes that put a smile on your face
This is a thread to highlight little things people wrote on the CBB that put a smile on your face today.
As for today, I'd like to quote this one from Sasquatch:

Sasquatch wrote: I don't know of any natlangs that do this. But it is an idea I've been kicking around for a while for my language.
Cat-ABL move ball-PAT dog-ALL
That would tell you the ball was moved from the cat to the dog. Volition marking would then clarify whether the cat gave the ball to the dog or the dog took the ball from the cat. Volition could even tell you if the cat forced the dog to take the ball. Putting the ball in an Instrumental case might even create the sense that the cat threw the ball at the dog rather than gave it to him. I suppose it's possible even to mark it so that the ball rolled from the cat to the dog "on its own" (down a hill, or moved by the wind?)
This is the sort of thing that makes me giggle. I love cases taking the semantic weight off of verbs.
Edit: Modicone: Topic merged. We already have this thread.
