Re: The Sixth Conversation Thread

I know news of attaining status there meets a negative reception sometimes. I…kind of feel embarrassed sharing it, like it negatively reflects on me that I’m like “Ooh, I’m in Mensa! Nyah-nyah” and that’s not how I want to come across at all. Kind of a Catch-22. Possibly cases of badly done sit-com...

Re: Extroverts, introverts, dopamine, and conworlding

That's even more introverted than I pictured you! Surprise? You do have some friends, though, right -- you just don't phone them? Do you have friends you know in person whom you speak with online (the way I met my friends Lamesha, Oneika, and Ellen in person and now talk with them on Facebook)? Yes...

Re: Extroverts, introverts, dopamine, and conworlding

I don't hate Esperanto, however, some people (generally of the n00blanger sort) think its biggest downfall is its accusative -n, whereas I would say Esperanto's biggest downfall is its male-as-default sexism. Curious. While I am extremely hesitant to throw around accusative terms like that, having ...

Re: Extroverts, introverts, dopamine, and conworlding

To the introverts here: How do you feel when you make some big-time accomplishment in conworlding? To answer your question, leastways for me, I don't really feel anything. If anything, I suppose it could be said that I "rest content with the work, though never quite satisfied with the result&q...

Re: Extroverts, introverts, dopamine, and conworlding

Anyway, to be back on topic, it seems that your link verifies what we observe. Members here seem to hate that auxlang because it isn't complex enough, however I hate it because it is not simple enough.
And some of don't hate it at all!

Or maybe just one of us after all...

Or by this?

I hadn't heard of that! Ruritanian romance!

I had heard the name Ruritania in connection with ocean liners, though. Sounds like such a familiar name!

Re: Silicon-based life

Ah, I see. Thank you for explaining this. And I suppose that means that most sapient species will be psychologically similar to modern humans Depends what you mean by 'similar'. It's certainly possible to have species who are on average very different from humans, to be sure. But not mystically dif...

Re: My Introduction and Conlang

But again, while this is the LCS' position, I can't find anything saying that that's actually the law. Of course, I never said there was any law regarding whether or not an invented language can be copyrighted. What I said was that Paramount was moved in some way to withdraw their claim to be able ...

Re: My Introduction and Conlang

Regarding lawyers: You can read the pertinent legals here as regards what's been done in US law thus far. It's not that it's unclear in the US at least, it's just that the issue has not been ruled on. EU (and presumably peri-Brexit-UK law) may vary. Basically, nullum crimen sine lege. It's therefore...

Thank you for all of that information. It was very helpful! I two more questions; how can I be involved in this online forum with you guys? I used to help this group working on a language called "honey..." - I forgot the last part of it but it was about five years ago and I do not know if...

Thanks. The language is fully documented and has a working grammar like verb conjugation as well. It also has its own script and cursive as well. I am about to type it up and make a book of it as well as a dictionary. Maybe one day I can present it at a language conference. When you say incorporati...

Re: How NOT to Conworld.

I found this very old webpage a few nights ago, .... I'm glad you were able to find the page! After reading your description of it earlier, I was curious whether it still existed. Looking forward to getting a better look at it later, but as far as first impressions, I think the Star Trek indicator ...

Re: Silicon-based life

planet Mars is home to silicon-based lifeforms in a Choose Your Own Adventure book that I read when I was a kid. There was a large crablike creature that bumped into me and then ate me. CYOA isnt necessarily big on accuracy, though .... they were kind of hit or miss. After all, the fact that this s...

Re: Silicon-based life

The fact remains that you've got in the Lehola Galaxy silicon life forms. Period, end of discussion. That's not a matter for debate To clarify: I have a vague idea of what the albhikar (the sapient species of this bioswath) will look like, and I've decided they'll be silicon-based, but I haven't th...

Re: Silicon-based life

This is where science fails and where we need to engage creativity. Ignore the naysayers and continue your quest for silicon lifeforms, please! I think it's most unhelpful for folks to respond with "it's impossible" or "it can't be done". Especially when that wasn't even the ques...

Or anywhere else in the US! Paellas, tapas, carcinerias, taquerias, empanadas, adobos --- happily Spanish plurals also end in -s, so we have no trouble with them.

Re: Foreign Plurals used in English besides Latin and Greek

Italian is an interesting case, since the most common borrowings from it in English come from plurals. So when dealing with Italian loans, the question is not whether someone uses the native plural but whether they use the native singular. Not here! I'm not even sure what one would do with a whole ...
