Oops, this entirely slipped my mind.
Is it the lung of a fish? If not, some help wouldn't be unwelcome [:D] .

No worries.

That is what it means literally. It refers to an internal part of an animal.

Wooo! [:D] That's an Excellent Word. [:D]
Can I ask for the process that gave the first word? They were quite... substantial.

I'll go and have a think about the next word.

Thank you!

Haha, you can say that again. I actually didn't realize the word would become so obscured when I decided to have "fish's lung" be the term for "swim bladder", but I decided to stick with it to see how things went.

pulmōnem [pʊɫˈmoːnẽː] > [pluˈmone] > [pʎuˈmore] > [pʎuˈmo̯are] > [pjuˈmaʊ̯re] > [pt͡suˈmaʊ̯re] > [əpt͡suˈmaːvre] ăpțumavre

The rhotacism of intervocalic [n] was inspired by Istro-Romanian, and [pj] > [pt͡s] was inspired by the palatalization of, for example, [p b m] to [ptʲ bdʲ mnʲ] in some dialects of (Daco-)Romanian. The -s is an unrelated suffix.

Compare:

piscī [ˈpɪskiː] > [ˈpeski] > [ˈpest͡ʃi] > [ˈpɛʃt͡ʃi] > [ˈpɛːʃt͡ʃi] peşci

Ah, yeah, I knew I wanted to have [aʊ̯] > [av~af] like in Greek, but I also liked the idea of having [aʊ̯] > [a], which can apparently be seen in some loans from Latin in Albanian. I ended up having original [aʊ̯] > [a], and then reintroducing [aʊ̯] from [o̯a], which had come to be in essentially the same way as in Romanian.

Is it a compound? If so, is it stig-scandar?

Did stig- originally begin with a vowel in Classical Latin?

[cross] stig isn't from Latin at all. It is a colloquial term found primarily in the North (including the capital); the south normally uses a Latin-derived word for it.

Well, did scandar originally begin with a vowel in Classical Latin?

[cross] No, but it did begin with a vowel at some point in its development from Latin.
And, I've just realised I forgot which declension this verb was; it should be scandr. Sorry for the mistake [:D] I'll edit the original post.

Is stig borrowed from a West Germanic language?

[tick] [cross] Possibly; this is uncertain. The consensus leans more on a North Germanic origin, however.
