The idea was that it is from a Germanic tribe that wandered between Swiss German, French and Italian speaking communities and got some influence from all of them. Gemination, a simpler syllable structure and metaphony from Italian dialects, vowel reduction from French and German and Palatalization from French and Italian. Fortition is maybe more an Italian thing, though I'm not sure. I really enjoy the look and the sound, even though some sound changes are still imperfects. Also I like the reduction of the paradigms, which look very German to me.
